Utsunomiya Jibu-no-saemon, Ōseki Shingozaemon (Naomi), and Hori Jūbei (Hisakoto) and others came forth and, in the presence of Shikibu-no-taifu's retainers, completed the handover [of the estate]. At that time, the Construction Magistrates Shimada Sado-no-kami (Masanobu), Kuchiki Tango-no-kami (Sadamori), and Ōkubo Shimotsuke-no-kami (Tadasuke) came to oversee and direct the proceedings. To report the completion of this matter, the caretaker official (rusui) Ōseki Shingozaemon (Naomi) was dispatched as an envoy to the Duty Senior Councilor Matsudaira Kii-no-kami (Nobuyō).
Item: On the same day, at the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2:00 p.m.), [the lord] arrived at the castle.
Item: On the sixteenth day of the fifth month, as a gesture of gratitude for the aforementioned matter, the envoy Ōtani Sukuroku (Shigeru) was dispatched to Edo. As was customary, hōsho paper, along with kelp (konbu), dried sea bream (hoshi-tai), and a ceremonial barrel of sake were presented [to the relevant officials]. Sukuroku departed Fukui on this day.
Item: On the eighteenth day of the fifth month, by written communication, the season's first mackerel (hatsu-saba), a local product of the domain, was presented as was customary.
Item: On the twenty-third day of the fifth month, it was proclaimed by written notice that whereas those who had hitherto been granted new stipends or increases to their stipends had not been required to offer formal thanks, henceforth they shall do so, as set out below:
Item: For those of the rank of bannerman (bangai) and above who receive a new stipend or an increase to their stipend:
Said thanks shall be expressed by presenting a sword and a horse-substitute offering.
Note: The horse-substitute shall be one hundred hiki per recipient.
Item: For those below the rank of unit commander (mononogashira) who receive a new stipend or an increase to their stipend:
Said thanks shall be expressed by presenting coin offerings (tori-me).
