**(Continuation from previous page: Additional clause to the bond)**
Intermediary: Lord Nishiike Chikuzen-no-kami
The above silver shall be repaid with interest at a rate of eight bu per month.
Additional clause: Should the standing timber of this mountain be felled and cleared, if the party serving as intermediary so desires, payment shall be made through direct negotiation (aiai) based on an external contractor's estimate. Furthermore, even if repayment of the said silver extends beyond the monthly interest schedule specified in the main bond, should the silver paid into the shrine (shanō) result in the timber being excessively felled beyond the amount equivalent to the principal, the said silver shall be used to negotiate repayment. The above is as stated.
(The main text was composed by Hodō; the additional clause was composed by Hoshō.)
The individuals named in the said bond affixed their seals today.

During the small gathering (shōkikai), Gozaburō of Umegatsujichō submitted a written petition stating the following: A quarrel over a folding fan broke out between the son of Kichijirō of the same ward (aged five) and the son of Gozaburō (aged four). As a result, Kichijirō severely beat Gozaburō's wife, causing her bodily pain and great hardship. Accordingly, a neighborhood meeting was convened and someone was sent to summon Kichijirō; however, Kichijirō's father, Kichiemon, appeared in his stead and again hurled abusive language and appeared about to enter the mosquito net where Gozaburō's wife lay ill, whereupon neighbors physically restrained him. This person is entirely lawless, and even the slightest show of force by him leaves both the victim and the entire neighborhood unable to feel at ease. Therefore, we humbly petition that Kichijirō be summoned and firmly admonished. If this is done, not only the victim herself but the entire neighborhood will be most grateful. The petition bore the official seals (yakuban) of the ward official (gyōji) and the elders (toshiyori). Accordingly, immediately thereafter, the petitioner Gozaburō, the elder Denbei, the ward official Sōgorō, and the other party Kichijirō were summoned, and both sides were examined. Kichijirō's testimony was greatly at odds with the facts, and he attempted various evasions, but since the petition was made by the entire neighborhood and bore the seals of the ward officials, Kichijirō alone could not make his excuses stand. Consequently, Kichijirō's cousin, Yojirōemon of Takenachō, was summoned and placed under custody. This was not strictly a prohibition on going out, but since the person in question was lawless,
and there was concern that he might again go to the neighborhood and resort to force in some manner, he was instructed to take great care and ensure that no falsehoods were told. Further instructions would be issued in due course. As for Jirosaku of Takenachō, the son-in-law of Kichiemon, he had also been summoned but was currently away from home, and it was expected that when he returned and came forward, he would receive the same instructions as Yojirōemon. Kichijirō mentioned that he himself had matters he wished to petition about, and so he was told that any petition he wished to make could be submitted in due course. However, it must be submitted with the official seals of the elders and ward officials — a petition from one individual alone would not be accepted. This was the instruction conveyed.

Regarding the above matters, as well as the question of who will visit Kobori's office on the 17th, the relevant parties are expected to come to the meeting hall to consult with the shrine priest. Since the shrine priest was absent from today's small gathering due to illness, matters proceeded as described above.
One item: At the deliberation hall (hyōgijo), expenses for tofu were shared. Present: Hakkyū, Tetsuken, Kiho, Shiken, Hokaku, Hodō, Naoan, and three members of the shrine staff (shokuchū).
One item: In the evening, Minami Tokuemon came with a receipt of completion (sumikata) and reported that Lord Shinano-no-suke had said that no silver had yet been received from Lord Aki-no-suke, and that he should come to this party to inquire. Accordingly, a letter was written to Sueshū and Tokuemon was dispatched. The reply was that Sueshū had duly informed Kanetame of the matter. Tokuemon was sent again with the message: please inquire whether the silver could be delivered this evening — in which case the receipt of completion could be presented to the entire shrine community this very evening — or if delivery would be tomorrow, then he would call again tomorrow. He was sent off with these instructions.

**The 16th Day. Day of the Horse. Rainy.**
One item: Before the Hour of the Snake (around 9–10 a.m.), Minami Tokuemon came and reported that the silver had been received from Lord Aki-no-suke the previous evening, and the matter was settled. He submitted a receipt of completion (sumikata) to the shrine community, expressed his gratitude for all the assistance rendered, and presented a written acknowledgment (issatsu) of thanks.
One item: Hokaku came to visit and reported that there was to be a small gathering after the midday meal today, but that he himself had business to attend to... (continues on the next page).
