当方管理の藪の中に猪が潜んでいるため、これを狩り出したい旨、百姓たちからの願いにより、詳しくお申し越しいただきましたが、西念寺の南は当方の管理地ではございませんので、その旨をお使いの方に申し入れたところ、遠方のことゆえ、角倉家の役人へ手紙を遣わしてほしいとのことでしたので、藪方役人への添え手紙を遣わし、お使いの方を直接向かわせましたので、そのようにご承知おきください。以上、ご報告申し上げます。

一、右の藪等の手狩（素手による追い出し）に際して、「責子（せめこ）」については、小屋の者を入れ、酒代として鳥目（銭）五百文を付けてお遣わしになるとのことを伝え聞いたため、庄屋の又左衛門を呼び寄せて尋ねたが、はっきりとは覚えていないとのことであった。そこで三軒屋の忠兵衛に尋ねに行ったところ、「百姓衆が藪の中に入って追い出しをされるのであれば、その通りに（五百文で済む）。もし百姓衆が入られないのであれば、小屋の若い者を五、七人雇い入れることになります。その際はご命令を私にお申し付けください」と言った。そこで百姓たちに尋ねたところ、「藪の中に入って追い出しましょう」とのことだったので、費用の無駄になるゆえ、今回は小屋の者を雇うには及ばないことになった。
十七日 未晴れ（曇り後晴れ） 昼から少々夕立 七ツ時（午後4時頃）大きな夕立あり
一、今日、土手の藪で猪狩が行われた。角倉与市から役人2人、角倉平治から役人1人が派遣された。両所とも足軽頭格の者とのことである。今春、土手垣の仕事の節に惣代が見廻りに出頭しなかったことについて、「これまで例年ご出頭いただいていたのに、今年はご出頭がないのはいかがなものか」と市兵衛に尋ねられたので、市兵衛が答えるには、「今春も二、三度出向きましたが、天気が悪かったためか、その節はご出頭がなく、その後また出向いたところ、既に鞍馬街道より下へお下りの様子で、その内にお祭り前で社中が混雑していたため、その機会がございませんでした。このことはこちらとしても申し訳なく思っておりました」と申したところ、「そのようなこともあったかもしれない。以後はそのようにご承知おきください」とのことだったが、「役人の方々へ申し入れることではなく、あなた方への話として申し上げた」ということであった。そのため機嫌があまり良くなかったので、例にはないことだが、後刻、窪御堂にて昼食の際に、お酒と何か軽い肴をお出しするようにしたい旨、市兵衛が申したので、お酒二升、肴一重（ふのやき・水貝）を持たせて遣わしたところ、大変喜ばれて厚く礼状をいただいたとのことである。今日の猪狩について、藪・土手への出頭は市兵衛一人であった。惣代の名前を持参し、昨日したためておいた川崎源蔵・宮嶋与左衛門への手紙も持参して、当人らに頼んで遣わした。百姓たちへは今日の催しの通知を前夜に「明六ツ時（夜明け前6時頃）」と触れたが、今朝は五ツ（午前8時頃）前から出てきた。下小屋の者も五人雇って藪の中を狩り出した。「ぞんけ薮」において、池尻町の次右衛門が四年ものの猪一頭に槍を刺して深手を負わせたが、猪は弥吉薮へ越えたので、血の跡を追って弥吉薮も狩り出し、河原町の伊三郎が突き止めた。したがって、一の槍（最初の傷を与えた者）は次右衛門、止め槍（とどめを刺した者）は伊三郎である。なお、これについて（功名の）争いもなく、あらかじめ申し合わせておいたとのことである。その他、各所の藪を狩り調べたが、他には（猪は）おらなかったとのことで、昼時に（猟は）終わった。七町の百姓のほか、上分の若衆も少々出てきたとのことである。猪狩への出頭は仲間の市兵衛一人であった。今日、保韶・保土が出頭したため、寄合は延引となった。
一、巳の刻（午前10時頃）頃、惣代の保韶・保土が出頭し、まず西御役所へ参上して勘定方に申し入れ、しばらく待っていたところ、河合理右衛門が出てきたので、御祭御下行米の勘定帳を差し出したところ、「受け取って置くので帰ってよい」とのことで退下した。それから東御役所へ参上し、当番方に申し入れたところ、平塚彦右衛門が出てきたので、例年の通り御祭下行米の勘定書を差し出し、「西御役所の勘定方へ上置いて帰る」と申したところ、「受け取っておく」とのことで退下した。それから小堀数馬殿の手代（元締め）曽我喜左衛門宅へ（向かった）。

We were informed in detail, following a petition from the villagers, that they wish to drive out the wild boar that have been hiding in the bamboo grove under our management. However, since the area to the south of Sainenji Temple is not under our jurisdiction, we informed your messenger of this situation. As the location is distant, we were asked to send a letter to the officials of the Kadokura household. We therefore sent a cover letter to the grove officials and dispatched your messenger directly. Please be aware of this arrangement. This is our report as above.

One matter: Regarding the "semeko" (beaters/drivers) for the hand-hunt of the aforementioned bamboo groves, we heard that the people from the hut would be brought in with five hundred mon in coin as drinking money. We summoned the village headman Matasaemon and inquired, but he said he could not recall clearly. We therefore went to ask Sanzakeya Chōbei, who said: "If the villagers enter the grove and drive out the boar themselves, that arrangement will suffice. If the villagers are unable to do so, five to seven young men from the hut should be hired. In that case, please give me the order." We then asked the villagers, and they said they would enter the grove and drive out the boar themselves. Therefore, since it would be wasteful, it was decided that it would not be necessary to hire the hut workers this time.

One matter: Today, a boar hunt was conducted in the embankment grove. Two officials were dispatched by Kadokura Yoichi, and one official by Kadokura Heiji. Both parties were reported to be of the rank of ashigaru (foot soldier) commanders. Regarding the matter that the general representative (sōdai) had not come out to inspect during the embankment fence work last spring — "It has been customary for you to attend every year; why not this year?" — Ichibei was asked. Ichibei replied: "We came out two or three times in spring, but perhaps due to bad weather, there was no attendance on those occasions. After that, when we came again, it appeared that [the officials] had already gone down from the Kurama Highway, and in the meantime, with the chaos of the pre-festival period at the shrine, there was no opportunity. We ourselves felt badly about this." To this, the reply was: "That may well have been the case; please bear this in mind in the future." However, it was added that "this is not something to raise with the officials, but merely a conversation between us." Because of this, the mood was not particularly good. Therefore, although it was not customary, Ichibei suggested that, later at lunchtime at Kubo-Midō, they should provide sake and some light refreshments. Two shō of sake and a tray of hors d'oeuvres (funoyaki and mizugai) were sent, and the officials were reportedly very pleased and gave a warm letter of thanks. Regarding today's boar hunt, the sole attendee for the grove and embankment from our side was Ichibei. He brought the names of the general representatives, and also brought along the letters written yesterday addressed to Kawasaki Genzō and Miyajima Yozaemon, entrusting them to those persons. The notification for today's event had been announced to the villagers the previous evening as "at the sixth hour of dawn (approximately 6 a.m.)," but they turned out this morning before the fifth hour (approximately 8 a.m.). Five workers from the lower hut were also hired to drive through the grove. In the "Zonke Grove," Jirōemon of Ikejiri-machi stabbed a four-year-old boar, wounding it deeply, but it escaped into the Yakichi Grove. Following the blood trail, the Yakichi Grove was also hunted, and Isaburō of Kawara-machi delivered the killing blow. Thus, the first spear (first to wound) was Jirōemon, and the finishing spear (killing blow) was Isaburō. There was reportedly no dispute over the credit, as it had been agreed upon in advance.
