**[24th Day, continued]** Among Kanetada's young men, Kingo and Kanenori had been omitted from the written list, but it was established that they were long-standing members of the group, and they attended throughout. The officials attending on behalf of the Rokugō were three men (from [Kuroda?]), including Hikōichi, Ichinoi Yosōzaemon, and Horikawa village headman Kinai. The villages of Ōno and Koyama did not attend; Nakamura sent two representatives. There was a small amount of miscellaneous fish for the divine offering, and reportedly about fourteen or fifteen sweetfish (ayu) were caught. They returned to their lodgings just before the Hour of the Boar (around 10 p.m.). Today, Ōtsūya Shōsuke was summoned and came, and he reported that a single tan of Takamiya-jima fabric had been obtained for eighteen monme. From Satsumaya Tachisell in Muromachi, ten bundles of sōmen noodles each were sent as a summer (doyō) courtesy visit gift. Starting today, the construction of the Noh stage began. It is expected to take until around the 27th. Today, Kifune Sanemon came to the meeting hall (kaisho), and when questioned, he gave a detailed account of the circumstances under which the former Jōjuin had planted the cedar trees. Today, the annual duty official (nenban) summoned Koyama Seibei, Gonzaemon, and Kanbei and others, and negotiations took place regarding outstanding rice payments. Yōsei and Sankō handled the negotiations. Hohō did not attend. Timber allocation (kikiwari) discussions also continued at the deliberation chamber today. --- **[25th Day, Hinoto-U (Cyclical date), Clear]** The maidservant Sayo, her period of ritual fire purification (aruhi-ake) being complete today, returned home this morning. Kifune Bunemon came to attend, and when questioned by the meeting hall regarding the cedar trees that Jōjuin had felled this time, he stated that thirty-five or thirty-six years ago, Jōjuin had donated cedar seedlings, and the people of the valley had planted them. At that time, Jōjuin had said that after a hundred large trees had grown, it was their hope that in future generations Jōjuin's donation would remain as a record of loyal service to the shrine. A neighbor of his (Bunemon's) had also participated in the planting at that time, but that person had since passed away; as it would be thirty-one years this year since their death, it must be thirty-five or thirty-six years since the planting. If a document from the shrine had been submitted at that time, it should be on record, and there is no doubt whatsoever that it is shrine land. Previously, the current Jōjuin had mentioned that the undergrowth and miscellaneous trees in the cedar grove had grown thick and that he intended to clear the undergrowth, which would also help the cedars grow thicker, to which Bunemon had replied that the grove could not easily be cut without proper authorization and asked if Jōjuin understood this, whereupon Jōjuin had replied that he did indeed understand. In the end, Bunemon believed that this incident was the result of Jōjuin being deceived by Tanji. When Sanemon was previously questioned, his account was the same as Bunemon's, confirming without doubt that the land is shrine property. The matter should also be documented in the daily records (hinami) of Kyōhō 5 or 6 (1720–1721). Today, the river magistrate (kawa-bugyō) conducted the weir-fishing at Kenana, as a continuation of yesterday's activities. Yesterday they had been left incomplete due to the late hour, hence today's continuation. There was no need for officials to attend. After the midday meal, a small gathering (kogiyokai) was held, and today the document officer also attended along with Kanetada. Around midday, Jintsūin came to visit and reported on behalf of Jōjuin: the cedar grove to the east of Kajitori had been donated and planted by the previous elderly monk (rōsō). This time, a few trees had been selectively felled, and the proceeds were intended to purchase new cedar seedlings to replant. Due to one thing and another, the report had been delayed, but they were now reporting as a precaution. The meeting hall replied by asking whether the felling had not yet begun, to which Jintsūin replied that it had already started to a small extent. When asked how many trees were planned to be felled, the reply was that about thirty to forty trees had already been cut. Hodo, who was present, stated that in that case, there were further matters on which their opinion needed to be sought, and requested that felling be suspended for the time being, and that felling resume only after a reply had been given from this side. Jintsūin replied that everything was understood in full detail, and withdrew. Around the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2 p.m.), a small gathering was held, attended by Hohō, Hirohisa, Kuniuji, Tetsuki, Sueharu, Fumitaka, Hokyaku, Hodo, and Naoyasu, with Gakunori presiding at the meeting hall (the shrine chief had sent his apologies due to other duties). The matters presented were: the dispatch report (chūshin) letter recently received from the duty official Hosho, the matter of having summoned and questioned Kifune Sanemon, and the explanation (enzetsu) given by Kifune Bunemon, (continued below).
