**[25th Day, continued]** When the matters just presented — including Jintsūin's visit — were reported, the deliberation concluded that it would be appropriate to examine the daily records (hinami) further and then consult at the assembly (gosankai) scheduled for the 27th. First, a messenger was sent to summon Jintsūin, with the intent to convey that this side had certain opinions on the matter, that the felling should be suspended, and that if any trees had already been felled, the timber should not be moved anywhere but held in custody — and that instructions would follow in due course. When the messenger was sent for Jintsūin, however, it was found that he had not gone up the mountain to Kifune (to the Kifune duty office), but had gone into the capital (Kyoto). He would present himself upon returning. The meeting hall would deliver the appropriate instructions at that time. In connection with this matter, the daily records from Kyōhō 1 (1716) through Kyōhō 7 (1722) were broadly examined, but no relevant entry was found. Therefore the matter was left as it stood for the day, and it was decided that the daily records at the Kifune duty office would be examined further on the 27th. Everyone then dispersed. Hohō left early as he had business requiring him to go into the capital. The three officials of the currency exchange (kawase-kata) all went out together and appeared to be reviewing accounts. Timber allocation discussions (kikiwari) were also held today at the deliberation chamber. This evening, the fire ritual for sending away plague spirits (ekiokuri-no-hi) was performed in the seven districts (shichō). --- **[26th Day, Tsuchinoe-Tatsu (Cyclical date), Clear — Overcast with light rain in the morning, clearing around the Hour of the Snake (approx. 10 a.m.)]** This morning, Jintsūin came to the meeting hall, reporting that he had gone into the capital the previous night and returned very late, and had therefore come to present himself this morning. The meeting hall conveyed the same instructions as the previous day, and Jintsūin acknowledged them and withdrew. The caretaker (rusui) of the deliberation chamber brought two pieces of pine timber (sanshin nihon). Last night, Hokyaku had visited Mishikiyo's residence and offered his views on the current deliberations concerning Jōjuin. As a result, today Mishikiyo went to visit Fusutoshi and made inquiries. On the way, he met with Hodo and communicated Hodo's thoughts to them. In the evening, Mishikiyo came to deliver notice of tomorrow's gathering. The master carpenter Tome Sanjirō came to deliver a completed katabira (unlined summer garment). Today, the internal accounting (naisan) of the sixth-month accounts for the professional staff (shokunaka) was conducted. --- **[27th Day, Tsuchinoto-Mi (Cyclical date), Clear]** Today was the monthly regular gathering (tsukiji yoriiai). Those in attendance were: Hohō, Hirohisa, Narishisa, Yōsei, Yotaka, Tomokiyo, Kuniuji, Tetsuki, Sueharu, Shigeharu, Yasumune, Shigesome, Suenokubi, Hoshuketsuji, Sueharu, Sankō, Kunikyo, Yasubuno, Tomotoshi, Fumitaka, Hokyaku, Hodo, and Naoyasu. The meeting hall was presided over by Gakunori (the shrine chief sent his apologies, citing other duties). The monthly duty officials (tsukiban) for next month: Hohō, Yasumune, Suenokubi, and Moritaka. The monthly accounts book (kanjo-chō) for the professional staff was submitted and read aloud by the secretary (shippitsu). Regarding the customary New Year's Tanabata (seventh night) courtesy calls to both court nobles (kuge) and warrior houses (buke), it was decided that the matter of who should attend should be referred to the shrine chief. On the 22nd of last month, Nagato-no-kami Yotaka descended from Kifune and, together with the duty official Chikuzen-no-suke Hosho, conducted an inspection of the dead and fallen trees on the sacred mountain (oyama). A written list of the number of trees was then presented. The total was sixteen trees: three cedars, one (possibly tuga), and eleven fir/larch (toda). Their girths ranged from over one jō (approximately 3 meters in circumference) down to five shaku. In addition, the remaining timber from the cedars designated for official use had been felled to a size suitable for roofing boards (yaneba) and left in the custody of Bunemon. As for the cherry tree that Mishikiyo had previously inspected and that had been felled, the interior was found to be entirely hollowed out with holes throughout, rendering it unfit for official use, and it had been stacked aside. This was reported by Yotaka. On the same day: regarding the petition for the three households (sanka) to be released from their period of restraint (enryo), Hohō and Hokyaku attended. This was reported by Hokyaku. On the 23rd: concerning the river magistrate (kawa-bugyō) Sakyō-no-gonnosuke Kiyotoshi and the fishing for divine offerings (jingu-gyoryō) at the御戸代会 (Otodashirokai), the monthly six-officer duty roster was in attendance. On the 24th: letters arrived for Hohō and Sankō from Fujiya Chōzaemon in Edo (Kōfu), along with: an initial gift (hatsuō) of one hundred hiki in gold from Lord Kuchiki Yagozaemon; one wrapped packet of silver from Toraya Orie; and written courtesy messages from Lord Matsudaira Kunaishoyu and Lord Koide Shinano-no-kami. Also, the annual gift of five hundred hiki in gold from Lord Matsudaira Shimōsa-no-kami, presented to the two Aoi messengers (envoys to the Kamo Shrine), arrived today in the customary manner.
