**[27th Day, continued]**
- The matter of the circular notice (furejō) arriving from Igarashi on the 23rd → Already recorded above
- A report was received from the construction officials (zōsaku-kata). Upon inspection of the construction request submitted by Mimasaka-no-kami Kiyoko, it was found that the excavation and rope-binding work matched the written request with no discrepancies whatsoever in the number of bays and measurements. Accordingly, instructions were issued to proceed with the work at their own discretion.
- Regarding the half-dead fir trees on the Kifune mountain, after Nagato-no-kami conducted an inspection, he instructed Emon that Nagato-no-kami himself would take personal responsibility for the matter. A rough estimate of value was to be made, and after Bon (the summer festival), the matter was to be put to tender. It was agreed that further consultation should follow at a later date.
- During the assembly, Jōjuin arrived. A man named Kaji Tsugijibei, a tea house proprietor who was reportedly a dependent (hikan) of Jōjuin, brought along relevant documents and submitted the following petition: "The felling of the cedar trees that were donated by the previous elderly monk [of Jōjuin] was an extreme breach of proper conduct (fuchōhō), and we humbly request your forgiveness." The explanation offered was: "Since the tea garden in question was a place attached to the care of the caretaker monk (kanbō), we thought there would be no problem, and we proceeded without making a formal notification — this was our impropriety." As Jōjuin was considerably drunk during the meeting at the assembly hall, the discussion dragged on, and he was eventually sent home after brief formalities.
During deliberation, Hoshō stated: "Since this matter was put forward by that party as a donation, it does not require a formal investigation. However, if it takes the form of a formal reprimand from our side, it will require nothing less than ordering Jōjuin's replacement (交代). Therefore, we should privately request through the assembly hall that they submit a written apology (issatsu) acknowledging the impropriety." Sanko agreed with this opinion. It was further argued: "The assembly hall should not raise any other issues but simply accept an apology, and the matter will be resolved. If various matters are raised, it will inevitably lead to a full formal investigation within the shrine community, which will not be to [Jōjuin's] benefit — and this should be made clear." Hodo stated: "If it were to be settled by having members of the shrine community apologize on their behalf, we would essentially be conveying our own private wishes for an apology from them. That would hardly resolve anything properly. Since the standing timber of the sacred mountain is a matter of great importance — as stipulated by the official adjudication documents (gosaikyo-jō) — should the matter leak outside, it could come to be formally raised. It seems unlikely that a mere reprimand would suffice to settle things. In any case, there is no urgency, so the matter shall be left undecided and deferred to the next assembly for consultation." Yoshikiyo, Kuniuji, Hokaku, and others agreed with Hodo.

**28th Day, Kanoe-uma [Cycle Day], Clear**
- Today, all three of the Takata-yaku (rice field officials) gathered, and accounts were settled for all the funds collected by the underground land assessment officials (shimo-ji-gakari). As of today, over 13 kan had been collected.
- Shige-some (茂宗) and Kunikiyo (国清) of the construction officials (zōsaku-kata) gathered.
- Both of the accounts magistrates (kanjō-bugyō) submitted the accounts for duties performed during the current month.
- The exchange officials (kawase-kata) gathered, and Fukazoko-ike Hachibe was summoned.
- After the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2 p.m.), Hodo, Yasunori (保布), and Fuminori (史顕) went to the Seki River; Gorōtarō and Kansuke were brought along, and Uichirō and Kanenuki assisted. Below the Ono irrigation weir (Ōno-ide), on the eastern side of the main river course (Ōkawa-dōri), there was a shifted shoal (瀬違い), and since the water was deep and the riverbed could not dry out, Kanenuki used a haul seine net (makiami) to catch haye (dace, a type of river fish). They caught 90 dace, 7 sweetfish (ayu), and a small number of stone-lurking fish (ishifuse, likely sculpin or similar). The 7 ayu and 50 dace were to be salted and offered as divine provisions (goryō) on the 1st, 11th, 14th, 15th, and 16th of the coming month. The remaining fish were immediately ordered to be prepared as clear soup (suimono) for that evening. Those present included Hoshō, Yoshinori (世顕), Shigeki (茂季), Hodo, Fuminori, Gakunori (学顕), and others.
- This evening, fires were lit for the rice blight-sending ritual (ine-ekiokuri-no-hi).
- This evening, at Matsugasaki, there was a *daimoku odori* (题目踊り — a ritual dance-chant performance) to celebrate the inauguration ceremony at the main hall (Sōdō), followed by a *ji-odori* (地踊り, a local communal dance). The young men's group (wakamonochū) of this area was asked to come and lead the singing (ondo), and accordingly the young men's group went to Matsugasaki this evening.
- Today, "Mosan" was hired again for washing and laundering.
- Yoshinori (世顕) came to the deliberation hall (hyōgijo) and submitted a notice regarding the entry and use of the Noh performance stage.
