**[29th Day, Kanoto-Hitsuji (Cyclical Day), Clear; a brief evening shower in the afternoon, quickly clearing]**
- This morning, three *sata-nin* (shrine administrative officials) from the repair department (*shūri-kata*) came to the Noh stage, and the *gyōji* (officials) of the Seven Blocks (*shichō*) and the Six Roles (*roku-yaku*) were assigned their viewing locations. The *sata-nin* were in charge of erecting the pines at the *hashigakari* (bridge-walkway), while the cleaning of the stage was handled by *nakama* (assistants) and *komono* (lower attendants). After this was completed, the large-scale allocation (*ōwari*) of viewing areas was carried out. The Six Roles officials attended in formal *kamishimo* (upper and lower formal wear).
- Regarding the attendance of on-duty officials (*shokuchū*) this morning: The *gyōji* of the Seven Blocks alternate annually between east and west sides. One carpenter and one roofer also attended in the role of *buya ku* (foot-service roles). Prior to the construction/renovation (*gozōei*) carried out during the Shōtoku era (1711–1716), there was no permanent stage; instead, low stools (without legs) were laid out to form the stage area, and pine branches were spread on the *hashigakari*. It was during the Shōtoku *gozōei* that the present stage was built. Previously, as the east and west *gyōji* came out on this morning to set up the stage, this morning's activity has been called "*butai-tate*" (stage-erecting) by long custom. After the Six Roles returned to their designated places, the repair department carried out further adjustments.
After the morning meal, the Six Roles came out and the overall large allocation (*sō-basho ōwari*) was performed. Hokaku, Hodo, Naoyasu, Gakunori, Kaneta, and Mimikiyo participated. Gorōtarō was sent with one foot-attendant, carrying measurement poles (*manza o*), ropes, and a rule-box (*ki-bako*), etc.
**Area 1**: [Marginal note: Behind the *jiutai* (chorus), from the north of Kajita Shrine forward, up to the hand-bridge cut of the stage — 2 *ken* square. Fifth *bangashū* group.]
**Area 2**: [Marginal note: North of Area 1, same size — 2 *ken* square. Ninth *bangashū* group.] **Area 3**: [Marginal note: West of Area 1, from the north of Kajita Shrine, approximately 2.5 *ken* north-south, 2 *ken* east-west.] **Area 4**: [Marginal note: North of Area 2, 2 *ken* square. Second *bangashū* group.]
**Area 5**: [Marginal note: Western side of the front of the stage.] **Area 6**: [Marginal note: The front of the stage divided in two. Fourth *bangashū* group.] **Area 7**: [Marginal note: Eastern side of the stage, in front of the *sata-nin* raised gallery (*sajiki*) — 3 *ken* square. Eighth *bangashū* group.]
**Area 8**: [Marginal note: The northeast (*ushitora*) corner of the stage, divided into three — western section. Sixth *bangashū* group.] **Area 9**: [Marginal note: Northeast corner of the stage, divided into three — middle section. Seventh *bangashū* group.] **Area 10**: [Marginal note: The gate area divided into three — eastern end.]
This is the location of the cedar tree, in front of the shrine administrative area — First *bangashū* group.
After the above was completed: to the east of Area 7, in front of the *sōsō-chū* (monk attendants) and *sata-nin* raised gallery — one folding stool space [for Taguchi]; to the south of that, the carpenters' section (*banshō-kata*); to the west, in the scaled-pattern (*uroko-gata*) area, the *tayū* (head official) section; to the south of the first hot water [station], Kajita Shrine; the East Temple hermitage (*Tōji-an*) section; to the east of that, the *katana-shō* (sword-bearers) section; to the south of the *tōne* (shrine servants), the *jinin* (shrine people) section; to the southwest of the temple hermitage, the West Kamo (*Nishigamo*) villagers. From the south of the stage, from the white sand westward along the embankment — the Seven Blocks (*shichō*) villagers' section. The *jitte* (ten-hand officials) and junior officials (*waka-yaku*), along with all others in attendance, immediately conducted the smaller sub-allocation (*kowari*) upon completion of the large allocation. Hodo's area is Area 8 of the large allocation. This year it is assigned to Hayato and Ōji.
- After the area allocation was completed, the location for tonight's *yomiya* (night/eve festival) in front of the Second Torii gate was laid out. Measuring one and a half *ken* east from the western edge of the lawn, and one *ken* north from the southern edge of the lawn, the area was set at 4 *ken* square. Four stakes were driven and ropes stretched. At the northeast corner, there was a 2.5 *ken* extension (*hashakari*), with two stakes driven at approximately 1 *ken* intervals and roped in the fashion of a *hashigakari* (bridge walkway). Pine stakes for the rope-marking of the *yomiya* stage in front of the Second Torii were sent to be received from the repair department. The numbered placards for the Noh area allocation were brought from the Deliberation Hall (*Hyōgijo*) by foot attendants. The written labels from 1 through 10 were written on the stage by the scribe (*shippitsu*).
- Today, Isuke came until noon to clean the garden and split the remaining pine logs, then departed at noon.
- Ōmiya Gihei came having made up a formal *asa-kamishimo* (hemp formal wear).
- Mimikiyo came to deliver a notice regarding the morning assembly (*rōnyaku no yoriai*) to be held the following morning.
- Kisuke was sent to go and receive/escort Sandōjirō. (Kyōgen pieces: *Kōji* and *Inabadō*)
- **Tonight: *Yomiya* (evening festival).** As customary, the *shamudan* (shrine administrative representative), *kibishu* (seasonal head), *bettō* (superintendent), and *kenyu* attended. The Noh program consisted of: *Okina*, *Shōki*, *Tamakazura*, and *Kinrei*. Concluded at around the eighth-and-a-half hour (approximately 1 a.m.).
- Tonight, the weir at the Honjō irrigation channel (*Honjō-ide*) is to be released (lowered) for catching fish for the divine food offering (*shinku*). From the seventh hour (approximately 4 p.m.) until past dawn's sixth hour (approximately 6 a.m.).

**[30th Day, Mizunoe-Saru (Cyclical Day), Heavy evening shower from early morning; clearing from the lower part of the Hour of the Dragon (approximately 9 a.m.)]**
- This morning, past the Hour of the Rabbit (approximately 6 a.m.), the elder-and-younger assembly (*rōnyaku yoriai*) convened. Those in attendance: *Shishi* (松一氏), *Ento* (燕五), *Hoko* (保巨), *Hakukenji* (八白顕二), *Hoketsu* (保潔六), *Kōkenji* (晃顕十), *Hoshi* (甫氏九), *Hōgyō* (保堯三), *Myōsei* (苗清七), *Naoatsu* (直温), *Hokaku*, and *Honao-An* gathered at the assembly hall. Gakunori presented the report, the accounting ledger (*kanjō-chō*) for the current month's duties was submitted, and the scribe read it aloud.
- This morning at dawn, the Honjō channel weir was opened, but the fresh fish (*namazakana*) needed for the divine food offering were insufficient. The question was raised as to whether the weir should also be operated on the outer riverbank area... [continues on next page]
