風俗
中山の風俗は、すでに前録に見える。この度の役目は長く滞在し、見聞は特に詳細である。略して詮次を為し、採風に備える。

正月十六日、男女ともに墓を拝む。女子は年始に、皆毬を撃って戯れとする。また板舞の戯れがある。巨大な板を木の杭の上に横たえ、両端の下を二、三尺ほど空ける。二人の女が板の上で向かい合って立ち、一人が起き上がると一人が落ち、その勢いに乗って五、六尺ほど躍り上がる。傾いたり転んだり傾いたりしないものである。

Customs and Manners
The customs of Chuzan have already been described in previous records. This mission stayed for a long time, and my observations are particularly thorough. I briefly organize and arrange these to prepare materials for recording customs.

On the sixteenth day of the first month, both men and women worship at graves. At the beginning of the year, girls all play with balls as entertainment. There is also a plank-dancing game. A large plank is placed horizontally on wooden posts, with both ends suspended two to three feet above the ground. Two girls stand facing each other on the plank. When one rises, the other falls, and using this momentum they leap up about five to six feet. They do not tilt, fall, or lean to the side.
