一夜中御城下出火之節役懸り之面々尤目付中書付有之者共は其断承届可相通之此
外ハ其節ニ至り御家老中下知又は目付中可任差図事
附御家老中御城火消定火消之面々ニハ馬印可入之火事之節といふとも持槍は

難相通候由下馬御門ゟ与市郎方へ申遣候へハ与市郎ゟ申遣相通可申哉と御門ゟ
御目付へ申越候ニ付他国者之儀ニ候へハ先日御本丸へ罷出候者とて与市郎ゟ断不申遣子
細ハ無之候得共参懸り之事之故右之者相通候様ニ指図申遣候留有之
私云此取扱後々之手本ニ不相成与市郎ゟ断ニ而ハ不可相通と可申遣候事
一同五申年御城代被仰付屋敷入替之節槍長刀持入候事断申達候節御門へ申達候留有之
一寛保二戌年尾州竹腰志摩守ゟ飛脚遣候下馬御門断候様御城代笹治多門ゟ

現代語訳
一 夜中御城下出火の節、役掛りの面々、もっとも目付中書付有りの者共は、その断りを承り届け相通すべし。この外はその節に至り御家老中の下知または目付中の差図に任すべきこと
付け足し：御家老中御城火消し、定火消しの面々には馬印を入るべし。火事の節と申すといえども持槍は入るべからざること
一 御番所において火の元に念を入れ、下番所において焼き火等仕らざる様申し付けるべきこと
一 御番所の御道具損じ候節は、役方へ相達し取り替え申すべきこと
一 証拠印別紙書付の通り相渡し候。役人替りの節は目付中へ相達し、証拠印取り替え申すべきこと

英語訳
1. During nighttime fires in the castle town, officials with fire-fighting duties, particularly those with written orders from the inspectors, shall have their authorization acknowledged and be allowed passage. For all others, they must await instructions from the senior councilors or follow the directions of the inspectors when such incidents occur.
Addition: Senior councilors, castle fire brigade, and regular fire brigade members shall carry identifying banners. Even during fires, they shall not bring spears into the castle.
1. At the guard posts, great care shall be taken regarding fire hazards, and subordinate guard posts shall be instructed not to make fires for warmth or cooking.
1. When equipment at the guard posts is damaged, this shall be reported to the appropriate officials for replacement.
1. Authentication seals shall be distributed according to the attached written instructions. When officials change positions, this shall be reported to the inspectors and the authentication seals shall be replaced.
The above articles shall be observed. Generally, when any matters are delayed during day or night, they shall be reported to the monthly duty officer and their instructions followed.

Genbun 4, Year of the Sheep
1. When Yajima Togoro, a merchant from Otsu, visited Caretaker Suganuma Yoichiro's quarters within the Geba Gate, the regulations state that people from public and other domains may pass with authorization from Yoichiro. However, since he was from another domain, the Geba Gate informed Yoichiro's office that passage would be difficult without instructions from the inspectors. When Yoichiro's office inquired whether the person could pass with his authorization, the gate reported to the head inspector. Since he was from another domain, Yoichiro did not send authorization as he had for a previous visitor to the main bailey. Although there were no particular issues, since it was a casual visit, instructions were given to allow the person to pass. A record of this remains.
Personal note: This handling should not serve as precedent for future cases. It should be stated that passage cannot be allowed with only Yoichiro's authorization.
1. In the same 5th year, Year of the Monkey, when a castle deputy was appointed and residences were reassigned, there is a record of reporting to the gate when authorization was requested for bringing in spears and naginata.
