[Right folio] ○ Along the Suruga road, in Shimada, Fujieda, Okabe, and Mariko, large trees along the highway were toppled in many places, causing considerable hardship to travelers. Fuchū (present-day Shizuoka city) suffered relatively little damage. From Ejiri (present-day Shimizu) along the Minobu road, in Kohara, Manzawa, and Nanbu, many houses were damaged — likely because of their age. In Okitsu, Yui, and Kambara, where there are many pine groves, numerous trees fell, causing great difficulty for traffic on the Tōkaidō. The Fujikawa river also rose and ferry crossings were temporarily suspended. From there, along the highway through Yoshiwara, Hara, and Numazu, the damage was not so severe, but away from the main road, quite a few houses collapsed, trees fell, and waterlogged paddy fields appeared where the water had risen. ○ In Izu, from one post station at Mishima along the coast through Toda, Ōtako, and Irōzaki, everywhere the combination of violent wind and heavy rain was followed by a sudden surge of seawater, causing indescribable hardship. Shimoda in particular, being located on a projecting cape, suffered fierce winds and rain that destroyed houses, and because the incoming tide rose so rapidly, boats of all sizes that had been moored broke free and drifted about, causing great difficulty. Nevertheless, on the beachfront, [Left folio] the people had long been prepared for tsunamis, so there were no drowning deaths. In the Nitta, Nirayama, and Hōjō areas, while there was no flooding, large trees fell and crushed houses, leaving no small number of injured people. From there, in Sotoura, Kawazu, Akazawa, Kawana, and Ajiro, wind damage to houses was relatively light — owing to the fact that these areas were sheltered from the main path of the wind. ○ Atami suffered relatively little damage, but being a popular spa resort, it attracted many leisure visitors who, being unfamiliar with such events, panicked greatly in their alarm. ○ Moving to Sagami province, the areas of Doi, Manazuru, Umezawa, and Enoshima suffered devastation on a par with Shimoda. In Nagai, which is a harbor, countless large and small boats were smashed to pieces or blown ashore onto the hills. From Ajiro to Misaki-ura, the turmoil was comparable to a tsunami, yet no lives were lost. In Uraga and Hashirimizu, where people still remembered the tsunami of previous years, the situation was not quite so severe, though in truth the inhabitants were filled with great fear.
