The shrine attendant (at this time, saying that the sacred divination sticks and counting rods for the thousand-chō and ten-thousand-chō [land areas] are being handed over, and the shrine attendant responds that they will receive them) - accordingly, the officiating shrine attendant receives all of them, announces this completion, and distributes them one by one according to village order. Next, five are given to the deputy chiefs. The counting rods, abacus, etc., are given to the calculator. (However, in recent times the abacus is not used, so it is delivered to the deputy chief residence at a later date.)
At this time, each person uses a small knife to carve and reshape the head of the divination stick into a horse-head shape. Next, the officiating shrine attendant brings inkstone, water, paste, etc., so each person puts water in the inkstone, grinds ink, and adds writing to the divination stick. The format is as follows:
Front Side Back Side
[Village Name] (Sacred Protection Money Ledger) [Village Name] (Era Name, First Month, Eighth Day)
(However, village representatives write only the village name on the front side, with era name and date on the back. Deputy chiefs write the village name on both front and back.)
After completing the writing in this manner, paste is applied to the divination stick and it is attached to the end portion of the record book. Deputy chiefs do this for all five villages respectively. Next, the ceremony for collecting meal expenses begins. First, a requisition order is handed from within the village representatives to the officiating shrine attendant. (This was previously written out from within the village representatives at the request of the Yatone priest.)
The shrine attendant receives this, announces its completion, and among those brought according to village order, each places a check mark above the character "tan" (paddy field) of their respective village. When finished, the shrine attendant brings it back to the village representatives who wrote it out. After completion, all five villages then write out and return [documents], with the format as follows:
Payment: Regarding Sacred Protection Money for [Village Name]
Total: Eighty mon Paddy field portion
The above [names] for Ōrai-da meal expenses, Yatone priest collection
Accordingly paid to the administrative office as described herein
