現代語訳
后の伝に曰く、契丹は本来東胡の種族で、鮮卑山に居住していた。その後、国号を遼とした。日本の東夷が開発されて陸奥となったが、まだ開発されていない地が、いわゆる蝦夷地である。夷丹が山に隠れたことをもって山丹と称するのであろうか。
英語訳
The biography of Hou states that the Khitan were originally a tribe of the Donghu, dwelling in the Xianbei Mountains. Later, their state name became Liao. Japan's eastern barbarians were developed and became Mutsu, but the lands not yet developed are the so-called Ezo territory. Perhaps they are called Santan because the Itan hid in the mountains.
