彼を呼んで諸々のことを問うたが、文字・言語ともに通じない。我々および赤人は、わずかに蝦夷の言語を理解するのみである。そのため蝦夷を通じて問答するといっても、理解できないことが多く、通じることは少ない。また赤人は心を隔てて詳しく語ろうとしないため、我々の僕（従者）一人では（十分な情報を得ることができない）。

英語訳
We called him and asked about various matters, but neither writing nor spoken language was mutually intelligible. Our people and the Akaito (red people) can only barely understand the Ezo language. Therefore, even when we attempt dialogue through the Ezo as interpreters, there are many things we cannot understand, and little that we can communicate clearly. Moreover, the Akaito are guarded and unwilling to speak in detail, so our single servant alone (cannot obtain sufficient information).
