[Continued from previous page:] ...the proficiency in drills (稽古), formation alignment (列伍), and marching order (足並み) were all in good order, and [his] advancement to the upper grade (上等) in the current year was declared to be the result of his diligent effort.
1. In the fifth month of the fourteenth year (Year of the Ox), upon his lord's journey down [from Edo to Aizu], he returned [to Edo] to serve as a welcoming escort, attended his lord, and then accompanied him back down [to Aizu].
1. In the sixth month of the same year, although the number of attendants for the journey had been reduced, it was declared that he had served without a single absence and with great diligence throughout.
1. In the tenth month of the same year, as a reward for his devoted and diligent practice in drills (繰練), he was presented with a spear with a new blade (新身之鑓) — one shaft/piece.
1. In the twelfth month of the same year, he was appointed as acting gate guard (御戸番仮役) during the lord's residence in the domain.
