現代語訳
九日、十三日、十四日、十六日、二十二日、二十三日も地震があり、二十四日は二度揺れた。この時の地震で信濃国では大きな山が崩れ、大河が氾濫し、六郡の城も家も地面から押し流されて漂流し、牛馬や男女が流れ死に、その死体が丘や山のように積み重なった。
【延喜】二年七月二十四日、巳の刻に地震があり、その音は乱声のように遠くから響いてきて振動した。
【承平】四年五月二十七日、午の時に大地震が二度あり、京中の各所で築垣が転倒した。酉の刻に紫宸殿南方東の第二間の砌の下に虹が現れた。同二十八日、卯の刻に地震、二十九日、巳の刻に地震。六月三日、卯の時に一度揺れた後、後田邑陵（光孝帝の御陵）、後山科陵（醍醐帝の御陵）の方角で何度も鳴動があったため、山陵使が派遣された。同十月十九日、辰の刻に地震があり、戌の刻に東大寺の西塔及び廊等が神火によって焼失した。
【天慶】元年四月十五日、地が大きく震え、京中の垣墻が壊れ、内膳司の極が転倒して圧死者四人が出た。この穢れによって賀茂祭が中止された。その後、日々地震が止まず、同二十八日、諸国に命じて地震祭を行った。同二十九日まで揺れた後、無事となった。同六月三日、雨が降り地が大きく震え、二十日また地震があって鴨川の水が大きく氾濫し、京の人家を押し流した。陰陽寮では東西で戦争があるだろうと占った。果たして翌年、下総に将門、伊予に純友の乱が起こったが、程なく平定された。
【康保】二年九月二十一日、地が大きく震え、二十二日、二十三日、十月朔日また震えた。
【安和】元年八月三日、子の刻に地震があり、鳥獣が驚いて鳴いた。
【天禄】三年閏二月十四日、寅の刻に大地震があり、同日申の時に宜陽殿が鳴動した。同年九月二十七日、辰の刻に地が大きく震えた。十二月二十日、年号を天延元年と改めた。これは天変地異によるもので、罪人を赦し、調庸を免除し、老人に穀物を賜った。
【貞元】元年四月十一日夜、地が大きく震えた。同六月十八日、申の刻に地が大きく震え、その響きは甚だしく、内裏の御

On the 9th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 22nd, and 23rd days there were earthquakes, and on the 24th day there were two tremors. During this earthquake, in Shinano Province large mountains collapsed, great rivers overflowed, and the castles and houses of six districts were swept away from the ground and carried off by floods. Cattle, horses, men and women drowned, and their corpses piled up like hills and mountains.
**Engi** 2nd year, 7th month, 24th day: At the hour of the Snake there was an earthquake, and its sound echoed from afar like a tumultuous roar with vibrations.
**Jōhei** 4th year, 5th month, 27th day: At the hour of the Horse there were two great earthquakes, and earthen walls collapsed in various places throughout the capital. At the hour of the Cock, a rainbow appeared beneath the foundation stones of the second bay on the east side of the southern part of Shishin-den. On the 28th, at the hour of the Rabbit there was an earthquake; on the 29th, at the hour of the Snake there was an earthquake. On the 3rd day of the 6th month, after one tremor at the hour of the Rabbit, there were repeated rumblings in the direction of Gotamura Mausoleum (tomb of Emperor Kōkō) and Goyamashina Mausoleum (tomb of Emperor Daigo), so imperial tomb inspectors were dispatched. On the 19th day of the 10th month, there was an earthquake at the hour of the Dragon, and at the hour of the Dog, the west pagoda and corridors of Tōdai-ji were burned by divine fire.
**Tengyō** 1st year, 4th month, 15th day: The earth shook greatly, walls throughout the capital collapsed, and the kitchen of the Imperial Table Office overturned, crushing four people to death. Due to this defilement, the Kamo Festival was suspended. Thereafter, daily earthquakes did not cease. On the 28th, earthquake rituals were ordered to be performed in all provinces. After tremors continued until the 29th, there was peace. On the 3rd day of the 6th month, it rained and the earth shook greatly; on the 20th there was another earthquake and the waters of the Kamo River overflowed greatly, washing away houses in the capital. The Bureau of Onmyō divined that there would be warfare in the east and west. Indeed, the following year rebellions broke out with Masakado in Shimōsa and Sumitomo in Iyo, but they were soon pacified.
**Kōhō** 2nd year, 9th month, 21st day: The earth shook greatly, and it shook again on the 22nd, 23rd, and 1st day of the 10th month.
