《割注：日つまひらかならず》肥後国に雨が降って地震が起こり、八代・天草・葦北の三郡で、官舎および田二百九十余町、民家四百七十余村、人千五百余人が水に漂い沈められた。山二百八十余箇所が崩れ、圧死した人が四十余人。公からの救済があった。○同十七年四月二十七日、一晩中から二日三晩地震が続いた。美濃国の櫓館・正倉・寺院・民家が崩れ、引き続き五月一日・二日・三日・四日に地震し、五日には昼夜止まず、六日・七日・八日・九日・十日・十六日・十八日に地震し、地面が折れ裂け水が湧き出た。二日より十七日の間、京都の諸寺で最勝王経を転読され、八日より二十一日の間、大安寺・薬師寺・元興寺・興福寺で大集経を読ませられた。《大炊天皇》《天平宝字》六年五月九日、美濃・飛騨・信濃国に地震があった。家を損じた者に米二石ずつを賜った。以上《続日本紀》

《桓武天皇》《延暦》十六年八月十四日、地震と暴風が吹いて京中の坊門・民家が倒れるものが多かった。《平城天皇》《大同》二年五月、地が大いに震えた。《嵯峨天皇》《弘仁》九年七月、相模・武蔵・下総・常陸・上野・下野等の国で地震し、山が崩れ谷が埋まること数里、圧死した百姓は数え切れないほどであった。八月に救済を賜り、今年の租調を免除され、屋を修し、圧没した者たちを埋葬させられた。九月に御祈祷があった。

In the three districts of Yatsushiro, Amakusa, and Ashinokita, government buildings and over 290 chō of rice fields, over 470 villages of private houses, and over 1,500 people were swept away and drowned by water. Over 280 locations of mountains collapsed, and over 40 people died from being crushed. There was relief aid from the government. ○ In the same 17th year, on the 27th day of the 4th month, earthquakes continued from one night through two days and three nights. In Mino Province, watchtowers, storehouses, temples, and private houses collapsed. Continuing into the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th days of the 5th month, earthquakes occurred, and on the 5th day they did not stop day or night.
