現代語訳
以上『文徳実録』清和天皇貞観5年6月17日 越中・越後で大地震が発生した。丘が谷となり、谷が丘となり、水が湧き出て民家を破壊し、圧死者が多数出た。これより後、毎日揺れが続いた。○同6年10月12日大震動○同10年7月8日 地震動があり、内外の塀や家屋が往々にして倒壊に及んだ。同日 播磨国で大地震があり、諸郡の官舎・寺院がすべて倒壊した。同9日・12日・13日・16日・20日、8月10日・12日・14日・16日・29日、9月7日に地震があった。○同11年5月26日 陸奥国で大地震があり、光があって昼なのに日陰のようだった。人民は叫んで立つことができず、家屋が倒れて圧死し、あるいは地面が裂けて埋まり、馬牛が驚いて踏み合い、城郭も門・櫓も城壁もすべて倒壊した。その数は知れない。海が荒れ、津波が押し寄せて城下に達し、海を隔てた所も原野・道路も青い海となり、船にも乗れず、山にも登れず、溺死者千人ばかり。財産も農作物もほとんど残らなかった。10月13日 朝廷より救恤を賜ること、大体前と同じ。○

Hills became valleys and valleys became hills, water gushed forth destroying houses, with many deaths from being crushed. After this, tremors continued daily. ○ Same 6th year, 10th month, 12th day - Great earthquake ○ Same 10th year, 7th month, 8th day - Earthquake occurred, causing frequent collapse of inner and outer walls and houses. Same day - Great earthquake in Harima Province, with all government buildings and temples in various districts collapsing. Earthquakes occurred on the same 9th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 20th days; 8th month 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 29th days; 9th month 7th day. ○ Same 11th year, 5th month, 26th day - Great earthquake in Mutsu Province with light making daytime appear like twilight. People screamed and could not stand, houses collapsed causing deaths by crushing, or the ground split and buried people. Horses and cattle panicked and trampled each other. Castles, gates, watchtowers, and walls all collapsed - their number unknown. The sea raged, tsunami surged reaching the castle town, areas separated by sea as well as fields and roads became blue ocean. People could neither board ships nor climb mountains.
