蒲公英（ほこうえい）たんぽぽ《本草綱目》田野や道路の至る所に自生する。その葉は地に広がって繁茂し、
春の早晩の葉間に黄色の一茎一花が代わる代わる開く。このような類は
数え上げることができないほど多いので、これを省略する。

本草拾遺に云う。時珍曰く、今人は一種の草を種える。葉は漳蘭のごとく、四時青翠で夏に紫花を開き穂を成し、繁殖しやすい。また吉祥草と名付けるが、この吉祥とは異なるものである。

遵生八箋に云う。吉祥草は生育しやすく、水土や石上を問わず、いずれも種えることができる。ただし水を得ることが最も良く、孤石や霊芝と組み合わせて用いると清らかである。花は紫色の蕾を生じるが、なかなか開花しない。もし家で栽培してこれに花があれば、吉祥と言えるようである。

汝南圃史に云う。吉祥草は萱に似て小さく、四時蒼翠で凋まない。九月に小花を開き、内白外紫で瑞香のようである。

天台山方外志に云う。観音草は山岩中に生える。盆に清水、砂石を盛ってこれを植えると青々と茂るが、泥に着くと萎れる。

Dandelion (hokōei), tanpopo 《Bencao Gangmu》 grows wild everywhere in fields and along roadsides. Its leaves spread on the ground and flourish,
and in spring, yellow single-stem single-flowers bloom alternately between the early and late leaves. Such varieties are
so numerous they cannot be counted, so this is abbreviated.

The Bencao Shiyi states: Shizhen said that people today cultivate a type of grass with leaves like Zhanglan, evergreen throughout the four seasons, blooming purple flowers in summer and forming spikes, easy to propagate. It is also called jixiang grass (auspicious grass), but this is different from the jixiang mentioned here.

The Zunsheng Bazian states: Jixiang grass is easy to grow and can be planted anywhere - in soil, water, or on stones. However, having water is best, and when used to accompany solitary stones and lingzhi mushrooms, it is very pure. The flowers produce purple buds but do not easily bloom. If cultivated at home and it produces flowers, this seems to indicate good fortune.

The Runan Pushi states: Jixiang grass resembles daylily but is smaller, remaining verdant throughout the four seasons without withering. In the ninth month it opens small flowers, white inside and purple outside, like daphne.

The Tiantaishan Fangwai Zhi states: Guanyin grass grows among mountain rocks. When planted in a pot with clear water and sandy stones, it flourishes green, but withers when it touches mud.
