ばらむ（漢名：詳細不明）

各所の陰湿な地に植栽され、叢生する。その根は地中を横に這い、節がある。淡黄色をしている。茎葉ともに深緑色で、縦筋があり光沢がある。一根から五、六葉が並んで生じ、冬を経ても枯れない。夏に根の先端から若芽を生じる。

苞から左右に二、三葉が生じ、形はおよそ竹の筍のようである。一歳で一葉、五、六歳になって漸く枯れる。芽を発する頃、横根の傍らに花を生じる。筒状をなし、八弁で紫色である。筒の中に蕊がある。土上に発して開くものもあり、また土中に開くものもある。後に実を結び、土上に現れる。深青色で、丸くなく四稜をなして先端が尖り、肌は粗く渋い。頂きに蕊の痕がある。

Baramu (Chinese name: details unknown)

It is planted in shaded and moist places everywhere and grows in clusters. Its roots creep horizontally underground with nodes. They are pale yellow in color. Both stems and leaves are dark green with longitudinal lines and luster. Five to six leaves grow in parallel from one root and do not wither even through winter. In summer, young buds emerge from the root tips.

Two to three leaves emerge from the left and right sides of the bract, and their shape roughly resembles bamboo shoots. At one year there is one leaf, and they gradually wither at five to six years. When buds emerge, flowers grow beside the lateral roots. They form tubes with eight petals of purple color. There are stamens inside the tube. Some emerge and bloom above ground, while others bloom underground. Later they bear fruit that appears above ground. They are deep blue in color, not round but four-angled with pointed ends, and the surface is rough and astringent. There are traces of stamens at the top.
