此 草紙（さうし）は道成寺（どうしやうじ）の見越入道（みこしにうどう）
前 関白（くはんばく）大日坊（だいにちぼう）と申人京の田舎（いなか）の
片（かた）ほとりに於（おひ）て八大龍王（はちだいりうわう）九代
の後胤（かういん）安倍（あべ）の泰名（やすな）に葛（くず）の葉（は）
煎餅（せんべい）を授（さづか）りうれしやさらば

序
この草紙は道成寺の見越入道前関白大日坊と申す人が、京の田舎の片隅において、八大龍王九代の後裔である安倍の泰名に葛の葉煎餅を授かり、嬉しいことよ、それではということで（始まる物語である）。

Preface
This storybook tells of how a person called Former Regent Dainichibo, the Mikoushi-nyudo of Dojoji Temple, in the countryside outskirts of Kyoto, received kuzu-no-ha senbei (arrowroot leaf rice crackers) from Abe no Yasuna, a descendant of the ninth generation of the Eight Great Dragon Kings, and joyfully began (this tale).
