（善光寺より関川まで）道のりはおよそ十里ほどの間である。この道筋の中に吉村と申す所があり、その近辺の山が崩れ落ち、家人ともども土中に埋まった。越後高田は半壊し、今町は三月二十四日より四度の地震で残らず潰れた上に、同月二十九日に大風と大火により残らず焼失した。
一、善光寺より飯山へは八里ある。この街道沿いの三才村・石村・浅野村は半壊し、村々の内では大水により田畑の水損が多くあった。飯山様の御城は残らず潰れ、（城のあった）地面が一面平らになり、地所は一丈余り（高低の差が）高低になった。市中は一面に高く浮き上がり、残らず潰れ、その上に出火があって残りなく焼けた。飯山は地盤が低くくぼんでいるため、折々水損があった所であるが、
今度は平地が一面に高くなったため、水難はなかったものの、死者が数多く出た。同所より越後国の谷通りの所々が多く潰れ、満水により田畑の水損が生じ、新潟まで数ヶ村にわたり、おおよそ道のり六十里の間が大荒れであるとのことである。
一、三月二十四日夜の大地震の後、犀川は日々に減水し、丹波島の渡し場は一ヶ所になった。この川の上流は裾花川と申す川が流れ出ているところであるが、その流水もまた日々に減水し、次第に水が絶え、丹波川は水が絶えて、歩いて往来できるようになった。川中島をはじめとして村々が騒ぎ立ち、それぞれ近くの山林へ小屋を掛け、そこへ退いて出水を待っていたところ、三月二十八日の暁、七ツ時（午前四時頃）に（続く）。

(From Zenkōji to Sekikawa,) the distance is approximately ten ri. Along this road, at a place called Yoshimura, a nearby mountain collapsed and the inhabitants were buried alive under the earth. Echigo Takada was half destroyed. Imamachi was completely leveled by four earthquakes beginning on the twenty-fourth day of the third month, and then on the twenty-ninth day of the same month, a great wind and great fire burned the remainder to nothing.
Item: From Zenkōji to Iiyama is eight ri. Along this highway, Sanzai village, Ishi village, and Asano village were half destroyed, and within the various villages, much damage to fields and paddies was caused by flooding. The castle of the Iiyama domain was completely leveled — the entire castle site was flattened, with the ground rising and falling by more than one jō (approximately three meters) in various places. The town below was entirely heaved upward and completely destroyed, and on top of that, fire broke out and burned everything to nothing. Iiyama, being situated in a low-lying depression, had always been prone to occasional flood damage;
however, this time, because the flat ground had risen overall, there was no flooding — yet a great many people perished. From that area through the valleys of Echigo Province, many places were destroyed, with flooding causing damage to fields and paddies across several villages all the way to Niigata, a total stretch of roughly sixty ri, all of it in a state of great devastation.
Item: Following the great earthquake of the night of the twenty-fourth day of the third month, the Sai River decreased day by day in its water level, and the ferry crossing at Tabashima was reduced to a single crossing point. The upper reaches of this river flow out from the Susobana River, but that flow too diminished day by day, gradually ceasing altogether, until the Tamba River ran dry and could be crossed on foot. The villages throughout Kawanakajima and beyond were thrown into alarm; the inhabitants each built shelters in the nearby mountain forests, retreated there, and waited for the feared flood surge.
