**砂糖鳥（サトウチョウ）**
（砂糖を餌として与えるのを好む鳥。嘴が赤いものを桃花鳥という。）
天保八年丁酉（ひのととり）年二月二十八日、私が小沢弾正の屋敷に伺ったところ、砂糖鳥二羽の傷んだ標本を真写（実物を見て写す）するよう求められた。そのまま同（二月）二十九日に机の上に置いて真写した。

(A bird that favors sugar as feed. Those with red beaks are called *Tōkachō* ["Peach Blossom Bird"].）
On the twenty-eighth day of the second month of the eighth year of Tenpō, the *Hinoto-Tori* year (1837), I visited the residence of Ozawa Danjō, where I was requested to make a faithful copy (*shinsha*) of two damaged specimens of the Sugar Bird. Accordingly, on the twenty-ninth day of the same month, I made faithful copies with the specimens placed upon my desk.
