【クロアシアホウドリ(クロアシオキノタユウ)？ あるいはアホウドリの幼鳥(幼鳥は真っ黒らしい)？ しかしアホウドリの類いにしては顔が違う。クチバシの付け根、鼻の穴があるところが出っ張っている様子はミズナギドリ類に似ている。全身黒いのでコミズナギドリかハシボソミズナギドリかもしれない。ただし、片翼の長さだけで 1m ほどあるので、開長では2mを越える。大きさで言えばアホウドリの類いだろうか。そもそも真写したというのは本当なんだろうか。そこからウソ臭いと思うんだけど】

陶九成の『輟耕録』に言う。「瀛州と漠州の二州の境、塘濼（とうはく）のほとりに、二種類の鳥がいる。その一種は白鳥（こはくちょう）に似て、体色は正しく青みがかっており、嘴は長い。水際に凝然と立ち尽くして動かず、魚がその下を過ぎると即座にこれを捕る。終日魚がいなくても、場所を変えることもない。名を『信天縁』という。もう一種は鴨（あひる）に似ており、水の間を走り回り、腐った草や泥や砂の中でしきりに嘴でつついて（唼々然として）、絶えず索（えさ）を求めてやまず、一瞬も休むことがない。名を『漫画』という。信天縁は、何ら能のない者のように見えながら、漫画と同じく一日を過ごしても飢えた様子がなく、かえって体がますます壮大になる。二鳥が性質を異にすること、このようなものである。」
『信天録』には次のようにある。「この鳥には羽が抜ける時期があり、その間は飛ぶことができない。そのため往々にして人に捕らえられる。また（その時期は）食物を求めることもできないため、飢えて死ぬことがある。翅（翼）が三段に折れる、異様な鳥である。」

The *Chuogeng Lu* (輟耕録) by Tao Jiucheng states: "At the border between Ying Prefecture and Mo Prefecture, above the ponds and marshes called Tangbo, there live two kinds of birds. One resembles the swan (*koku*); its color is a true blue-grey, and its bill is long. It stands motionless at the water's edge, and when a fish passes beneath it, it seizes it at once. Even if no fish appears all day long, it does not change its position. It is called *Shin'ten'en* ('Trust-in-Heaven Connection'). The other resembles a duck; it runs about among the water, making a constant chattering sound (*shabushabu-zen*) as it probes through rotten grass, mud, and sand, endlessly searching for food without a moment's rest. It is called *Manga* ('Aimless Drawing/Wanderer'). The *Shin'ten'en*, though it appears to have no particular skill, passes the day just as *Manga* does, yet shows no sign of hunger, and its body grows ever more robust. Such is the difference in nature between these two birds."
The *Shin'ten Roku* (信天録) states: "This bird has a season when its feathers fall out, during which time it cannot fly. Thus it is frequently captured by people. Furthermore, during this period it is unable to seek food and may therefore die of starvation. Its wings fold in three sections — it is a remarkable bird."
