五位ト称スル事平家物語ニ見ヱタリ本朝食鑑ニモ
記リ食鑑ニ五位鷺ヲ鵁鶄トス則俗ニ云 青（アヲ）鷺也
或書又和名抄ニ鵁鶄（イヒ）弁色立成云鵁《割書：イ｜ヒ》住＿二海辺￣ニ＿一

【ゴイサギの成鳥】
五位鷺（ごいさぎ） 《別名：背黒五位（せぐろごい）とも云う。ナベショイ（鍋背負い）とも。老鳥は特に大きく、頭から背にかけて甚だ黒いため、鍋ショイと云う》 丙申年四月十一日、原本より写し取る
「五位」と称する事は『平家物語』に見えている。『本朝食鑑』にも記されており、同書では五位鷺を「鵁鶄（こうせい）」とする。すなわち俗に言う青鷺（アオサギ）のことである。ある書、また『和名抄』に、「鵁鶄（いひ）」とある。『弁色立成』に云く、「鵁（いひ）は海辺に住み、その鳴くこと極めてやかましい（喧しき）ものである」と。

The name "Goi" (Fifth Rank) can be found in the *Tale of the Heike* (Heike Monogatari). It is also recorded in the *Honchō Shokkan* (Mirror of Foods of Our Land), where the Goi-sagi is identified as the "kōsei" (鵁鶄). This is what is commonly called the "ao-sagi" (Grey Heron) in popular parlance. A certain text, as well as the *Wamyōshō* (Japanese Names Glossary), gives the reading "ihi" for 鵁鶄. The *Benshoku Ryūsei* states: "The kō (鵁) dwells along the seashore, and its cry is exceedingly loud and clamorous."
