雷鳥雌
同勤小沢弾正鳥拾羽ヲ旅行ノ者
持来ルヲ求ルニ旅中ノ手当悪キヤ其夜
二五羽一時ニ損ス又一二日歴日シテ又五羽皆
損ス其損セシ雄雌皆人ニアタヱヤリ又
其残リタル其一羽則此雌ナリ此者夏
ノ鳥ナリ斑ヲ少キモアリ雌ハ赤冠ナシ前
条ノ雷鳥トハ少異リ先写ノ至ラサラ

現代語訳
**雷鳥（雌）**
同じ勤め仲間の小沢弾正が、旅人が持ってきた鳥10羽を買い求めたところ、旅の途中での扱いが悪かったためか、その夜のうちに5羽が一度に死んでしまった。また、一、二日を経てさらに5羽もすべて死んでしまった。死んでしまった雄・雌はすべて人に譲り渡し、残った一羽、すなわちこの雌がそれである。この個体は夏の鳥（夏羽）であり、斑模様の少ないものもある。雌には赤い冠（赤い肉冠）がない。前の条に記した雷鳥とは少し異なる。先に写したものが正確でなかったのかもしれない。弾正が私に語るには、今この一羽を正確に写生せよとのことであった。天保8年（1837年）酉年2月27日に弾正の宅を訪れた際に私に告げられ、すなわち29日に謹んで写生した。

**Thunder Bird / Ptarmigan (Female)**
A colleague named Ozawa Danjō had purchased ten birds brought by a traveler, but perhaps due to poor care during the journey, five of them died all at once that very night. Then, after another day or two, the remaining five also all perished. The dead males and females were all given away to others, and the one bird that survived is this female. This individual is a summer bird (in summer plumage), and some specimens have fewer speckled markings. The female has no red comb (red wattle above the eye). It differs slightly from the ptarmigan described in the previous entry. Perhaps the earlier illustration was not entirely accurate. Danjō told me to make an accurate sketch of this one bird. When I visited Danjō's residence on the 27th day of the 2nd month of the 8th year of the Tenpō era (1837), Year of the Rooster, he informed me of this, and accordingly I respectfully sketched it on the 29th.
