其形状大サ如図好水辺小藪
蘆#1ノ中ニ住ム及晩暮ナク其声人

現代語訳
## 蘆五位（ヨシゴイ）
《別名：ホンノウサキ、サンクワゴイ 御鷹部屋》
その形状・大きさは図の通りである。水辺の小藪や
葦の茂みの中に棲む。夕暮れ時になると鳴き、その声は
人が門を音を立てて訪ねてくるようであり、また人を呼ぶ
声にも似ている。
丙申年四月二十八日、千駄木の某・逸見氏が
王子辺りで捕らえたものを送ってきたので、
真写した。
英語訳
## Ashigoi (Yoshi-goi / Yellow Bittern)
*Also known as: Honnōsaki, Sankwagoi —御鷹部屋 (Otaka-beya, the Falconry Office)*
Its form and size are as shown in the illustration. It inhabits the small thickets and reed beds along waterways. Toward dusk it calls out, and its cry sounds like a person noisily approaching one's gate, or similarly resembles the sound of someone calling out to another.
On the twenty-eighth day of the fourth month of the Hinoe-Saru year, a certain resident of Sendagi by the name of Hemi had captured this bird near Ōji and sent it along; it was sketched from life.
