【訳注者補足：ヒヨドリは頬が赤いが喉は赤くなく腹も白くない。また、これほど黒くもないように思われる。】

『爾雅集注』に曰く、
　鵯　《割書：別名》鸄　《割書：別名》鵯鶋　《割書：別名》鸒䳢
　飛ぶときに群れをなすことが多く、腹の下が白いものを、江東（中国の揚子江以東の地）では
　「鵯鳥（ひよどりとり）」と呼ぶ。

英語訳

【Kuroji (Black Bunting)】

Haoqu (蒿雀, "wormwood sparrow") — *Kuroji* — Black Bunting (黒鵐, Kuroji) — *Note: Various names exist, including Ōkuroji (large black bunting), Kokuroji (small black bunting), and Suzusadori.*

Captured on the 6th day of the 3rd month of the year Hinoto-Tori (Dīngyǒu, 1837), drawn from life.

【Annotator's note: The Hiyodori (Brown-eared Bulbul) has reddish cheeks but not a red throat, and its belly is not white. It also does not appear to be this black. (Questioning whether this entry correctly applies to the Hiyodori.)】

According to the *Erya Jizhu* (爾雅集注, Collected Commentaries on the Erya):
　鵯 — *also known as* 鸄 — *also known as* 鵯鶋 — *also known as* 鸒䳢
　When flying, they tend to move in large flocks; those with white undersides (white belly) are called "Hiyodori-tori" (鵯鳥) in Jiangdong (the region east of the Yangtze River in China).
