【図の説明】
片帽（かたぼう）
　片帽はすべて黒色の絹で作られており、頭頂部を覆い下に庇を作って六角形にしている。寒い時の家庭での帽子である。医官、楽工および王宮で茶を給仕する役割の者で僧のように髪を剃った者は皆これを被る。

笠（かさ）
　笠は多くは麦の茎で作られているが、皮製の笠もある。外側に黒い漆を塗り、内側を朱色にしている。

短簪（たんしん）
　短い髷用の簪で長さは三、四寸ほどである。すでに冠を被り頭頂部の髪を取り去った者がこれを挿す。飾り部分は円柱状だが、方形の柱や六角柱もある。金が最も貴く、金の頭部に銀の柱が次に貴く、銀がその次で、銅が最も下である。

長簪（ちょうしん）
　長簪は長さ一尺余りで、婦人や幼童で大きな髷を結う者がこれを挿す。これも金、銀、三品で貴賤を分ける。民家の女性の簪はすべて玳瑁（たいまい）製である。

【Figure Descriptions】
片帽 (Flat Cap)
　The flat caps are all made of black silk, covering the top of the head with a brim below forming six ridges. These are caps worn at home during cold weather. Medical officials, musicians, and those who serve tea in the royal palace and have shaved their hair like monks all wear these.

Kasa (Hat/Conical Hat)
　Most kasa are made from wheat stalks, though there are also leather kasa. The exterior is coated with black lacquer while the interior is painted vermillion.

Short Hairpin (Tanshin)
　Short hairpins for topknots are about three to four sun in length. Those who already wear caps and have removed the hair from the top of their heads insert these. The decorative head is cylindrical, though there are also square columns and hexagonal columns. Gold is most precious, gold heads with silver shafts are next, silver follows, and copper is lowest.

Long Hairpin (Chōshin)
　Long hairpins are over one shaku in length, worn by women and children who arrange large topknots. These also distinguish rank through three grades of gold and silver. Hairpins of common household women are all made of tortoiseshell.
