たるくびなればごくらくへみちびかねば
ならぬマアそうはなるまいわへ

ないとおひたいのびやく

現代語訳
ある夜、二つの頭の二人前の夢を見たが、その夢に地蔵菩薩が忽然と現れなさり、善の首を「さあ、連れて行って極楽へ到らせよう」としたところへ、赤鬼がやって来て、悪の首を引き立てて地獄へ行こうとする。頭は二つ、身体は一つなので、どちらへも決着がつけがたく、互いに争いとなった。
鬼が言うには、
「この悪の首は様々な罪を作った首なので、必ず連れて来いと閻魔王の申し付けでございます。そこを離して、この方へお渡しあれ」
地蔵菩薩が仰るには、
「この善の首は色々と善言・慈悲を施した首なので、極楽へ導かねばならぬ。まあ、そうはなるまいよ」
鬼が言う、
「もしこいつをお渡しにならないと、お額の白毫を抉り抜いて、緒締めにしますぞ」
地蔵菩薩が言うには、
「四の五の抜かすと、何だ、お前の褌を取り上げて毛巾着にするぞよ」
英語訳
One night, the two heads had a dream for two people. In that dream, Jizo Bodhisattva suddenly appeared and tried to take the good head, saying "Come, I shall lead you to paradise." Then a red demon came and tried to drag the evil head to hell. Since there were two heads but one body, it was difficult to settle which way to go, and they began to quarrel with each other.
The demon said:
"This evil head has committed various sins, so King Enma has ordered me to bring it without fail. Let go there and hand it over to me."
Jizo Bodhisattva said:
"This good head has practiced various good words and compassion, so I must guide it to paradise. Well, that won't happen."
The demon said:
"If you don't hand this one over, I'll gouge out the white tuft of hair (urna) from your forehead and make it into a cord tie!"
Jizo Bodhisattva said:
"If you talk such nonsense, what's this - I'll take your loincloth and make it into a drawstring purse!"
