現代語訳
このようにして悪の首はあの夢を見て、初めて自分の心の罪が大きいことを知り、懺悔をして道人の教えを受けることにした。
そのころ鎮鬼道人という徳のある人がいた。二つの頭に教えて言うことには、「『義楚六帖』の二十四に言う。一匹の犬が井戸をのぞき、自分の影が水に映るのを見て怒り、これと戦おうとして、ついに井戸に落ちて死んだ。これは『我がある』と思うがゆえである」云々と。すべての人が「我がある」と思うがゆえに、自分の心と自分の身を責めて一生を苦しめる。
あの犬が水に映る自分の影を見て怒り、身を失うことは、一身にして二心があることのたとえである。お前の二つの頭が互いに争うのもまたこれと同じである。今より後、悪を捨てて善にのみ進むべしと言って、打ち出の小槌であくの頭を打つと、その跡は大きなこぶとなった。
悪の首は小槌で打たれた跡がこぶとなり、後は花のしぼむように次第に萎んで、ついに塵となって落ち、善の首ばかりが残って、普通の人となった。
【善の首の台詞】
「二一天作五一見、一身が二心であることを悟りました」
【鎮鬼道人の台詞】
「世の人がお前の姿を見て、片輪者だと笑うであろうが、一身にして二心ある人の心を絵に描けば、お前のような片輪者であろう。現れることと隠れることが絶えずあるのみである。この隠れ蓑の隠れ笠は、鬼の角を隠し、『我がある』と思う我が身を隠す宝物である」
英語訳
Thus, the evil head saw that dream and for the first time realized the magnitude of his heart's sins, and decided to repent and receive the teachings of the holy man.
At that time, there was a virtuous person called Chinki Dōjin (Demon-Subduing Holy Man). He taught the two heads, saying: "The twenty-fourth volume of the 'Giso Rokujō' states: 'A dog looked into a well, saw its own shadow reflected in the water, became angry, tried to fight with it, and finally fell into the well and died. This happened because it thought "I exist."'" And so on. All people, because they think "I exist," torment their own hearts and bodies throughout their lives.
That dog seeing its own reflection in the water, becoming angry, and losing its life is a parable of having two hearts in one body. Your two heads fighting each other is also the same as this. From now on, abandon evil and advance only toward good." Saying this, he struck the evil head with a magic mallet, and the spot became a large bump.
The evil head, struck by the small mallet, developed a bump at that spot, which later withered gradually like a wilting flower, finally crumbling to dust and falling away. Only the good head remained, and he became an ordinary person.

"People of the world will see your appearance and laugh at you as a cripple, but if one were to draw a picture of the heart of a person who has two hearts in one body, it would be a cripple like you. There is merely the constant alternation between revealing and concealing. This invisible cloak and invisible hat are treasures that hide the demon's horns and conceal the self that thinks 'I exist.'"
