『日東魚譜』によると、大鯛は中国及び九州にこれがある。大きいものは八、九尺、或いは一丈に至る。味は佳くない。或いは毒があるという。

On Large Sea Bream (Ōtai)
According to the "Nittō Gyofu" (Fish Records of Japan), large sea bream are found in China and Kyushu. Large specimens reach eight to nine shaku, or sometimes one jō in length. The taste is not good. Some say they are poisonous.
