現代語訳
こうして京伝の胸の鏡には「煙草入れ見せの体裁、購入【？】当年は別して、切れ地紙地ともに珍しい新物品々ございますから、何とぞ相変わらずお求め下されませ」という口上を述べど、「どうぞ煙草入れを一つも余計に売って、お上への税を心よく納めたい」という手前勝手な姿が映る。
♪「聞き手、大勢のうち、伏見山形に蔦の紋の付いた男の胸の鏡には、今夜の講釈を書き留めて新版の草双紙にしよう」という抜け目のない姿が映る。その他、聞き手の胸の鏡のことは繁ければ、ここに省略す。
♪「お定まり、めでたし々々」と、ずいぶん丁寧に祝っておこう。
今度京伝店にて珍しい着せる売り出し申し候。ご評判くださるべく候。

Thus, in Kyōden's mirror of the heart appears: "The appearance of showing tobacco pouches, purchasing【?】 - this year especially, both fabric and paper goods are unusual new items, so please continue to patronize us as before." Though he speaks these words of courtesy, what reflects is his selfish desire: "I hope to sell even one extra tobacco pouch so I can gladly pay my taxes to the government."
♪Among the many listeners, in the heart-mirror of a man wearing the ivy crest of Fushimi Yamagata appears the calculating thought: "I'll write down tonight's lecture and make it into a newly published illustrated book." The heart-mirrors of other listeners are too numerous to describe, so I abbreviate here.
♪"As is customary, congratulations, congratulations" - let us celebrate quite politely.
