英語訳

[Continued from previous page:] Through the formal announcement (o-hirō) by Mizuno Sakon-shōgen-sama, he subsequently proceeded to the Nishi-no-maru (the Western Enclosure of Edo Castle), where, in the Hinoki-no-ma (the Hall of Japanese Cypress), he presented a ceremonial sword (o-tachi) and a payment in lieu of a horse (umashiro) as offerings to Naifu-sama (the former Shogun/head of the Tokugawa main family), whereupon he was granted an audience with Lord Nishio Oki-no-kami. One item: In the seventh month of the same year, he was ordered to take charge of overseeing the compilation of the official record of Lord Kinbun's deeds and life (go-jijitsu henshū). One item: On the sixth day of the tenth month of the same year, he was summoned to the o-kyūsoku (the lord's private resting chamber), where the lord graciously expressed in person that he had labored with extraordinary effort since that spring. He was personally presented, from the lord's own hand, with a piece of calligraphy written by the lord himself (go-fude no o-sho) and two decorative reins featuring the lord's painted design (o-e-tazuna). One item: On the seventh day of the same month, he departed Edo and traveled down to Aizu. One item: In the same month, as personal effects (i-motsu) of Lord Kinbun, he was bestowed with: one dyed small-sleeved robe (some-o-kosode), one white small-sleeved robe (shiro-o-kosode), a lined and patched formal hakama set (uratsugi-o-kamishimo), and a white summer robe (shiro-o-katabira). One item: In the fourth month of the sixth year of the Sheep cycle [Bunsei 6, 1823], he had previously received an internal indication (go-naī) that he would be ordered to serve as the official messenger (o-tsukai) for the ceremonial greeting following the lord's entry into the domain (go-nyūbu no o-rei), and he was to depart for Edo on the day the lord arrived at the castle. However, upon hearing that he was unable to overcome his chronic ailment of rectal prolapse (datsu-kō), and considering that a long, hurried journey during the heat of the season would cause him exceptional hardship, it was therefore decreed that he need only fulfill the duties of messenger to the castle and to the Senior Councilors (o-rōjū-sama) and the Junior Councilors (waka-o-toshiyori-sama), and that the remaining duties would be excused and entrusted to another person.
