- In May of the same year, Lord Sadaaki summoned him to his rest quarters and, acknowledging his diligent service, personally bestowed upon him one set of lined court dress.
- In August (intercalary month) of the same year, in the lord's presence, while maintaining his current position, he was appointed to concurrently serve as chief retainer for Aizu financial affairs and military magistrate. He was assigned to serve annual duty shifts at the antechamber during each period of residence in Edo. Regarding Lady Juhoin's affairs and other duties, he was to continue as before. When retainers presented matters for approval, they were to appear together before the lord. For matters concerning the military lecture group, he was to oversee all affairs following the precedent of Kurokawachi Judayu. His banner and horse insignia were permitted for use in Aizu, and his official stipend and retainer allowances remained as before. He was commanded to immediately begin his duty shifts during the current Edo residence period.
- In September of the same year, having been appointed to concurrent service as military magistrate, he stated that since he was inadequate in military studies and had neglected his studies for several years, he was not versed in military administration matters. As even a single misjudgment could lead to unexpected failures, he could not remain at ease in this position. Though it was presumptuous to make a request immediately upon receiving the appointment, he submitted a detailed petition requesting exemption from this concurrent duty. When his petition reached the lord's attention, it was acknowledged that his concerns seemed reasonable and that from a personal standpoint such thinking was understandable, but since the appointment was made according to the lord's will, the request would not be granted. Although his primary duties were numerous...
