草で覆いをした。当隊については、諸隊の中でも特に優秀で、一同が挙げて精力的に働いたため、五月二日頃までには大体完成したが、まず根小屋へ引き移ることを検討して見合わせていた。ところが、一営ずつでも引き移れば敵の攻撃に便利となり、また仮小屋の陣営で桐油類を他へ回せば、その分だけ他隊の防備にも役立つので、いろいろと検討する必要もないため、強いて引き移るよう采女方から再三申し入れがあった。そこで一統に先立って同七日、仮小屋を引き払い、不浄なども掃除して残すところなく片付け、軍装を整えて隊の下、一同本営へ引き移した。当所は低湿で日当たりの悪い場所柄で、営規通りでは地続きの場で敵と対陣するのとは違い、諸事窮屈では第一風土病も避けられず、自然と病気を生じる原因ともなり、品々差し支える事があるため、その間に緩和策を講じ、長期に堪え、病難等もなく凌げる程度に追々調整し、また敵船渡来の節の手配の都合、臨時の事変は格別として、大体あらかじめ定めておく手配に混乱がないよう将吏に示しておくべき件々を簡便にして煩雑でないよう、場所と時の位に応じて取捨選択し、渡来時の手配の都合は伝十郎殿をはじめ御役人中へもよく打ち合わせの

However, we had been deliberating and postponing the move to the main quarters first. Since moving even one camp at a time would be convenient for enemy attacks, and if lamp oil and other supplies from the temporary quarters were distributed to other units, it would benefit the defense of those units as well, there was no need for much deliberation. The Uneme faction repeatedly urged us to move by force. Therefore, ahead of the others, on the 7th day of the same month, we dismantled the temporary quarters, cleaned up all impurities and left nothing behind, arranged our military equipment, and the entire unit moved to the main camp. This location is a low, damp, and shaded area by nature. Unlike confronting the enemy in connected terrain according to standard camp regulations, everything here is cramped. First, we cannot avoid the negative effects of the climate, which naturally leads to illness and causes various difficulties.
