一 同年六月十五日弐番隊并日向三郎右衛門隊之
操練山岡伝十郎殿被致一覧候ニ付為応対見
所江罷出同廿一日当隊之操練是又入一覧候

上で取り調べ、渡来を相待っていたところ、公儀衆の様子では、兵事の取り扱いがどうも厳格でなく、緩みがあることもあり、悪く行えば部下たちに悪影響が及び、士気が低下するのではないかと、采女方をはじめとして甚だ心配している事情である。
一、同年六月十五日、二番隊並びに日向三郎右衛門隊の操練を山岡伝十郎殿がご覧になることになったため、応対のため見学場所へ出向いた。同二十一日、当隊の操練もまたご覧いただいた。
ただし、伝十郎殿から操練をご覧になりたいとのお申し越しがあったため、操練場を見立てたところ、営舎の南に当たる谷間で、凸凹の草藪があり、これもまた拙者、三郎右衛門をはじめとして出向き、坪割りをして各々自身で刈り払い、地形を整えて六、七十間四方の教場を作った。狭くて無理のある場所ではあったが、今日、二番隊、三郎右衛門隊が営中から操練に出て、まず海岸に配置し、伝十郎殿を見学場所へご案内して御役人中がお揃いになった合図の狼煙で、二隊が畳隊に編成し、歩鼓を打って教場へ操練を行い、単独での操練を済ませた。当隊については場所が狭くて一同では難しいため、同二十一日にご覧いただくこととし、一通り済んだ後、畳列座作の法を習練した。閏六月九日、当隊の寄合備で三郎右衛門隊を

After conducting investigations as mentioned above and waiting for arrivals, regarding the situation of the government forces, their handling of military affairs was somehow not strict enough, with some laxity, and if things went poorly, it might adversely affect the subordinates and lower morale. The Uneme faction and others were greatly concerned about this situation.
On June 15th of the same year, Lord Yamaoka Denjuro was to observe the military drills of the Second Unit and Hyuga Saburoemon's unit, so we went out to the observation area to receive him. On the 21st of the same month, he also observed our unit's drill.
However, since Lord Denjuro had expressed his desire to observe the drills, when we surveyed the drill ground, it was in a valley south of the barracks with uneven grassy thickets. I, Saburoemon, and others went out, measured the plots, cleared and leveled the terrain ourselves, and created a training ground of sixty to seventy ken square.
