一、赤羽村紺屋・又四郎の願書、粂左衛門殿より御戻し成され候。先年、上左衛門殿が分一方を相勤められた節、諸事の定法をお伺い申され候節、紺屋の義（こと）ばかりが相見えるにつき、御■事方へ御聞き合わせ成され候。三月より病死、七月まで八（分の）御免の御昼（免除）、八月より運上取り立ての御定法により、これにより礼が相済まず申し候。私共の御役筋においても右の趣を置きて、以来、実法に仕り候様に仰せ付けられ候。すなわち願書、久兵衛東■出につき相戻し、右の段申し渡し候様、申し遣わし候。

Item: The petition (negaisho) of Matashirō, dye-house worker of Akaha village, has been returned via Kumezaemon. In a previous year, when Kamisaemon was serving in the Bunichi-kata [the official revenue office], at the time when the established procedures (sadamehō) for various matters were being enquired into, it was found that only the affairs of the dye-house were in question, and so an inquiry was made to the ■ office. [The rule states that] from the time of death by illness in the 3rd month through the 7th month, an exemption of eight-tenths (hachi-bu no menjo) is granted, and from the 8th month onward, the collection of operating levies (un'jō) is the established rule. Accordingly, the expression of thanks (rei) has not yet been settled. [It has been directed] that, even within our own official duties, keeping this matter in mind, henceforth [all such things] are to be handled according to proper procedure (jippō). The petition in question has accordingly been returned, as Kyūbei submitted it through the east [office/route] ■, and instructions were sent to convey the above-mentioned points.
