(Continuing from the previous entry regarding foreign nationals causing disturbances near Matsumae:) He was appointed to carry out the duties of lodging allocation (oyado-wari) in the event that troops were to be dispatched.
- In the 12th month of the same year, he was appointed to serve concurrently as a minor official (ko-yakunin) of the Post-Station Regulatory Office (eki-shimari-kata) and the Post-Station Office (eki-kata yakusho). Regarding his duties at the post-station office, he was praised (shōbi) for his diligent service from the very beginning; his rank was raised above that of the Provisions Officer (o-makanai-yaku), and his stipend (o-yaku-ryō) continued to be paid as before.
- In the 1st month of the 5th year of the same era (Tatsu, 1808), he was charged with the duty of guarding Ezo-chi (Hokkaido), and since troops were to be dispatched, he departed ahead of the main body of troops in the same month for duties relating to lodgings and billeting along the route. In the 4th month of the same year, he arrived by sail at Karafuto Island (Sakhalin), where he carried out various duties including the assignment and distribution of garrison quarters (jinya-kubari).
**[Left folio]**
Note: During the garrison on Karafuto Island, since a detachment of troops was to be sent to Rūtaka, he proceeded there as well. After the guard duties were completed, the entire force withdrew to Karafuto in the intercalary 6th month. At that point, he was appointed to manage lodging allocations during the return march, together with the forces stationed at Sōya and Matsumae, who were also returning in the manner of a formal military withdrawal. He crossed the sea to Sōya and, during the march through Ezo-chi, was provisionally appointed to the role of Foot-Soldier Inspector (o-kachi-metsuke kari-yaku). When he returned to garrison in the 11th month of the same year, it had been arranged that upon arrival at Wakamatsu he would receive a formal gift of sake at the pre-arrival lodging (mae-yado); however, since he had returned ahead of the main body of troops, it was subsequently announced that the sake would be presented to him at a later date.
