あらぬうしろさまなる人にも蹴わたして懸の内へ
蹴いれたるよしにてわか身は向の木をすきてかゝり
の外をまはる本儀なれと入興之時二三度木の外へ
けいたし木の本に立侍る人にもほねをおらせむかひ
つめの人も忠をつくして蹴之一義なり又宿徳
の人もしくは貴人なとの向つめはあなかち木の外
をめくらねともくるしみなし又向つめの人
不覚をして向の木の本をすとをりとかやに
わか座敷へ帰入事不可有巨　は

一野臥事
式云上手八人心あらん野伏一両あるへしといへり
或は上臈鞠足の大様ならんするうしろ或は老者の
行歩おもふ様ならさらんうしろに立へし又人
と人とのあはひのうしろに立説もあり木のうしろには
立へからす近来なき事なれは委細不能記之
只さる事のあると後代の人のしるへきはかりなり

一乞事
わか蹴侍るらんとおもふとき拜をいたして鞠をこふ

現代語訳

あるいは後ろ様なる人にも蹴り渡して掛かりの内へ蹴り入れたる様にて、我が身は向かいの木を透きて掛かりの外を回るのが本義なれど、入興の時は二三度木の外へ蹴り出し、木の本に立ち侍る人にも骨を折らせ、向かい詰めの人も忠を尽くして蹴るのが一つの義である。また宿徳の人もしくは貴人などの向かい詰めは、あながち木の外を巡らなくとも苦しみなし。また向かい詰めの人が不覚をして、向かいの木の本を素通りなどして我が座敷へ帰り入ることはあってはならない。

一、野伏のこと
式に云う、上手八人心あらん時、野伏一両あるべしと言えり。あるいは上臈で蹴鞠の足の大様でないする後ろ、或いは老者の行歩思うようでないであろう後ろに立つべし。また人と人との間の後ろに立つという説もあり。木の後ろには立つべからず。近来ないことなれば委細記すことはできない。ただそのようなことがあると後代の人の知るべきばかりなり。

一、乞うこと
我が蹴り侍らんと思う時、拝をいたして鞠を乞う。

英語訳

One may also kick the ball to a person positioned behind and kick it into the hanging area. The proper form is for oneself to pass through the opposite tree and circle around the outside of the hanging area. However, during moments of heightened interest, one may kick outside the trees two or three times, making the people standing at the base of the trees exert effort, and having the person in direction-positioning also devote loyalty in kicking - this is one principle. Also, for people of established virtue or nobles performing direction-positioning, there is no problem even if they do not necessarily circle around the outside of the trees. Furthermore, if the person in direction-positioning makes an error and passes straight through the base of the opposite tree to return to their own position, this must not happen.

1. On Field-Lying (No-bushi)
The rules state: "When eight skilled players have the proper mindset, there should be one or two field-lying players." One should stand behind a high-ranking person whose kemari footwork is not excellent, or behind an elderly person whose walking may not be as intended. There is also a theory about standing behind the space between people. One must not stand behind trees. Since this has not occurred recently, I cannot record the details. This is merely so that people of later generations will know that such things existed.
