現代語訳
同じ七日の晩、夕暮れ時より上州・信州の山々、峰々より濃い雲が浅間山へ向かって布を垂らすように漂い、光り物が東西に飛び交い、人の形のようなものが草津の白根山・万座山へと飛んだということは疑いのないことであった。人々は「天狗の仕業か、外道のなす業であろう」として、神社において祭礼が行われた。
同じ八日は、朝から何もかも——草木に至るまで——大風が吹き来るかのように揺れ渡り、神仏の石の灯篭も揺れ動いて、人々は気分が悪く、念仏を唱え、諸仏・神に祈誓したところ、四ツ半時分（午前十一時頃）に信州・木曽の御嶽山、戸隠山の辺りより光り物が浅間ヶ嶽へと飛び入ったと見えた。それより山鳴りが起こり動き出し、噴出物が押し出し、上州吾妻（へと流れた）——

On the evening of the same 7th day, from dusk onward, thick clouds descended from the mountains and peaks of Kōzuke and Shinano provinces, drifting toward Mount Asama as if draping cloth, while luminous objects flew about in all directions east and west, and things resembling human figures were said to have flown toward Shirane Mountain and Manza Mountain in the Kusatsu area—of this there was no doubt. People said, "This must be the work of tengu, or the deeds of heretical spirits (gedō)," and ritual ceremonies were held at shrines.
On the same 8th day, from morning onward, everything—down to the very grass and trees—swayed as if a great wind were blowing through, stone lanterns at shrines and temples shook and trembled, people felt ill at heart, and they recited nenbutsu prayers and made vows to various Buddhas and deities. At around the half of the fourth hour (approximately 11 a.m.), a luminous object appeared to fly from the direction of Mount Ontake in Kiso, Shinano Province, and the Togakushi Mountain area into Mount Asama. From that moment, the mountain began to rumble and move, and volcanic material burst forth, pushing out toward the Agatsuma area of Kōzuke Province——
