てうちん持ける浅間の煙りなるゆへか
一ふしぎや翌日（ヨクジツ）の朝関八洲は不申及信州
加賀能登越中越後出羽奥州まで白（シロ）
き毛（ヶ）ふる三寸五寸或は壱尺余あるもあり
昔慶安三寅年焼出しの節も諸国へ
毛（ヶ）ふるといふ事あり久安年中其外にも
ふる事年代記に見へたり
七日は別而なることつよく土（つち）をうごかし大
じしんのことくにて戸しゃうしくら〳〵と
なり山より北石（キタイシ）とまりまで三 度（ド）押
出し鎌原村にて先年の石（イシ）とまりゆへに
それより下（シタ）へ押たすことあるまじとたゞ大
石 降（フ）ることをあんじひく〳〵 土蔵（ドゾウ）岩の穴（アナ）
など心かけおきしとなり
現代語訳
提灯を持って歩いていた。（これは）浅間の煙のせいであろうか。
不思議なことに、翌朝には関八州はもちろんのこと、信州・加賀・能登・越中・越後・出羽・奥州に至るまで、白い灰が降り積もり、三寸・五寸、あるいは一尺余りも積もったところもあった。
昔、慶安三年（寅年）の噴火の際にも、諸国へ灰が降ったということがあり、久安年中やそれ以外にも降ったことが年代記に記されている。
七日は特に激しく地面が揺れ動き、大地震のようで、戸や障子がガタガタと鳴った。山より北石（きたいし）泊まりまで三度にわたって（土石流・溶岩流などが）押し出し、鎌原村では先年の石止まり（堆積物の堰）があったため、それより下へ押し流されることはあるまいと、ただ大石が降ってくることだけを心配し、低地にある土蔵や岩の穴などを避難場所として心がけておいたということである。

Strangely, the following morning, not only throughout the Kantō region (Kan-Hasshū), but as far as Shinshū, Kaga, Noto, Etchū, Echigo, Dewa, and Ōshū, white ash fell and accumulated to depths of three sun, five sun, or in some places over one shaku.
In the past, during the eruption of the third year of Keian (the Year of the Tiger), ash had reportedly fallen across various provinces as well, and there are records in chronicles of ash falling during the Kyūan era and on other occasions too.
On the seventh day, the ground shook with exceptional violence, as if in a great earthquake, causing doors and shoji screens to rattle loudly. From the mountain to as far as Kitaishi-tomari, there were three surges [of pyroclastic or lava flows], but since there was a natural dam of rocks from a previous eruption at Kamahara Village, people believed the flows would not push beyond that point. Their only worry was large rocks raining down, and so they had taken care to identify low-lying storehouses (dozō) and caves in the rocks as places of refuge.
