**吾妻郡（マ）草津** 高崎より二十里。硫酸・鉄を含み、味は渋酸（しぶく酸っぱい）なり。
- （一）脚気の湯 温度百十七度より百二十六度に至る。
- （二）綿の湯 同百十六度ないし百十八度。
- （三）松の湯 同百〇六度より百十五度に至る。
- （四）金比羅湯 同百〇八度より百十八度まで。

この鉱泉の性質は、目洗湯を除く外はことごとく以下の六泉に類似すべし。ただ酸気の多きことと収斂の能力あるをもって区別するのみ。
- （十一）御坐湯（おざゆ） 温度百五十一度より百五十八度にして、硫黄・鉄気およびはなはだ多くの酸気あり。
- （十二）鷲の湯 同百二十度より百二十四度。泉質は同上。
- （十三）熱の湯 同百九十四度。泉質は同上。
- （十四）地蔵湯 同百十八度より百二十六度に至る。泉質は同上。
- （十五）滝の湯 同百〇九度より百十七度に至る。泉質は同上。
- （十六）鷹の湯 温度不分明。泉質は同上。
これらの諸泉はその主成分が硫酸および硫酸礬土にして、甚だしき収斂・防腐・下泄の能力あるをもって、以下の諸病に効あり。

**Agatsuma District (Surveyed) Kusatsu (草津)** Twenty *ri* from Takasaki. Contains sulfuric acid and iron; the flavor is astringent and sour.
- (1) Beriberi Bath (*Kakke-no-yu*) Temperature ranging from 117 to 126 degrees.
- (2) Cotton Bath (*Wata-no-yu*) Same, 116 to 118 degrees.
- (3) Pine Bath (*Matsu-no-yu*) Same, 106 to 115 degrees.
- (4) Kompira Bath (*Konpira-yu*) Same, 108 to 118 degrees.
- (5) Jewel Bath (*Tama-no-yu*)
- (6) Lapis Lazuli Bath (*Ruri-no-yu*)
- (7) White Sand Bath (*Shirasu-no-yu*)
- (8) Niikawa Bath (*Niikawa-no-yu*) These four baths no longer exist at present.

The mineral properties of these springs, with the exception of the Eye-Washing Bath, should all be similar to the following six springs. They are distinguished only by their high concentration of acidic gas and their astringent properties.
- (11) Honorable Seat Bath (*Oza-yu*) Temperature 151 to 158 degrees; contains sulfur, iron gas, and a great quantity of acidic gas.
- (12) Eagle Bath (*Washi-no-yu*) Same, 120 to 124 degrees. Spring quality same as above.

The principal components of all these springs are sulfuric acid and aluminum sulfate (*ryōban-do*), and owing to their exceptionally powerful astringent, antiseptic, and purgative properties, they are effective for the following conditions:

Those suffering from the above conditions should benefit from both internal and external use. However, the dosage per occasion must not exceed half a *san* to one *san* (small cup).
