一、本書は、横浜司薬場教師「ドクトル・ゲルツ」氏が著述した「ド・ラ・ナチュール」と題するフランス語の書物より、日本鉱泉の部分を抄訳し、さらに広く他の書物から抄出したものを挿入・追加して編纂したものである。書中に挙げる鉱泉の項目は五百余件に及ぶが、それでもいまだ完全なものではない。また、精密な試験・分析を経たものは、全国の鉱泉の総数と比べれば甚だ僅少であるため、漸次追加・改正していく予定である。どうかその粗漏をとがめることのないようお願いしたい。
一、書中に示す温度はすべて華氏（ファーレンハイト）を用いる。
一、泉名などの上に一々記号を付けるのは、その出典が最も確実であることを証明し、あわせて閲覧者の参考に供しようとするためである。
一、「ゲ」の記号は、横浜司薬場教師「ドクトル・ゲルツ」氏の説による。
一、「ラ」は、地質兼鉱山学士・米国人「ベ・エス・ライマン」氏の検査によるもの。

【Editorial Notes (Hanrei)】
1. This volume has been compiled by extracting and translating the section on Japanese mineral springs from a French work entitled "De la Nature," authored by Dr. Geltzer, instructor at the Yokohama Medical Assay Office (Shiyakujō), and supplementing it with material excerpted from a wide range of other sources. Although the mineral springs listed in this volume number more than five hundred entries, the work is not yet complete. Furthermore, since those springs that have undergone detailed chemical analysis are extremely few compared to the total number of mineral springs throughout the country, it is the intention of the editor to make gradual additions and revisions. The reader is kindly asked not to reproach the work for its roughness and omissions.
2. All temperatures indicated in this volume are given in Fahrenheit (Fahrenheit scale).
3. The reason symbols are affixed one by one above the names of springs and the like is to certify that the sources are the most reliable, and at the same time to serve as a reference for readers.
— The symbol「ゲ」refers to the account of Dr. Geltzer, instructor at the Yokohama Medical Assay Office.
— 「ラ」refers to items based on the surveys of Benjamin Smith Lyman, an American geologist and mining engineer.
— 「マ」refers to the account of Dr. G. Martin, a German national serving as instructor at the Tokyo Medical Assay Office.
