**Kishima District — (Reference work "Ra") Tsukazaki** Located in the spa quarter of Takeo Village (*Takeo mura Yumachi*). Approximately four *ri* south of Ureshino hot spring. Along the road between the two, outcroppings of light-brown tuffaceous (*chūfaseasu*) slabs of stone are exposed, some of which contain flint. The original spring issues from hard gray volcanic rock; at a distance of approximately ten *shaku* from that point, the temperature measures 116.6°F. In the water, large bubbles of gas [most likely carbonic acid gas / CO₂] rise to the surface. A small amount of sediment consisting of mud with white sulfurous deposits is also present. The volume of spring water that issues forth is approximately three *tō* per minute. ○ (Reference work "Shi") Temperature: 122°F. The spring quality and therapeutic effects are similar to those of Ikaho hot spring (*Ikaho-no-yu*) in Kōzuke Province. Refer to page 26. This hot spring is said to have formerly been the reserved (*tome-yu*) hot spring of Lord Nabeshima. ○ (Local) The spring quality contains sodium carbonate (*sōda*), potassium carbonate (*pottāsu*), common salt, and other minerals. Recommended for rheumatism and related conditions.
**Fujitsu District — (Reference works "Shi," "Local," "Ge," and "Ra") Ureshino** Located in Shimojuku Village; three and a half *ri* from Sonogi Post Station. The rock in the vicinity consists of gray and pale-yellow slate-like stone containing feldspar (*banseki*). Temperature: 186.8°F. The spring quality does not contain hydrogen sulfide; there is a snow-white precipitate resembling a calcareous deposit. Numerous gas bubbles [most likely carbonic acid gas / CO₂] rise through the water. The spring water issues from alluvial soil (*ariyubiumu*; *alluvium*), and its volume is approximately 11 *koku*, 2 *tō*, and 5 *shō* per minute. ○ (Local) The spring quality contains sodium carbonate (*sōda*), hydrogen sulfide gas, alum, common salt, and potassium (*pottāsu*); therapeutic effects same as above. ○ (Reference work "Shi") An extremely hot saline spring. Temperature: 198°F. Spring quality and therapeutic effects are similar to those of Ikaho hot spring in Kōzuke Province.
