*(Continued from the previous page.)* ...those who wish to do so should consider it appropriate to visit the same mineral spring each time a suitable season arrives, continuing this practice for two or three years.
If a patient, following the best available guidance, arrives at a spring source suited to his or her illness, the patient must without fail remain in one place until it can be reliably determined whether the mineral water is appropriate for the present condition, and must not move about at will.
The owner of a mineral spring is required to be well-versed in the medicinal efficacy of the water and to ensure that constant and careful attention is given. Furthermore, should a patient arrive for whom the spring is not suitable, the owner must not accept such a patient in silence. To lavishly praise a mineral spring that is entirely unsuitable for a given ailment, and thereby attract a great many patients, is by no means a lasting benefit even to the owner. In the end, it will lead to the ruin of the spring's reputation, and it will come to be regarded in the same light as a quack doctor's secret remedy. When one considers whether the small gains made by temporarily attracting patients and taking their money are preferable to the enormous losses that will later arise from the spreading reputation that the spring is ineffective, the answer is clear.
Bathing is an important element in the course of mineral spring treatment, and it is generally preferable to carry it out in the morning. Should one wish to take a morning meal before bathing, one must select light and plain food and drink, and must not enter the bath until at least one hour has passed after eating. In some cases, it may also be considered appropriate to bathe just before retiring to sleep at night. The method of bathing, too, varies according to the nature of the illness...
