Temperature: 212 degrees. However, this varies considerably depending on the time of eruption. This mineral spring is a saline mineral water containing large quantities of "chloro-alkali" and "chloro"-earth minerals, and small quantities of sulfate compounds; it is to be regarded as the most efficacious among the mineral springs of Izu. Furthermore, the fact that within this saline mineral water there exists yet another simple hot spring of non-saline character is a matter to which scholars would do well to pay attention. ○ This site is situated on a bay, gradually rising in elevation, and should be ascended slowly. The various hot springs here have as their primary source a "geyser" [referring to a spring that erupts hot water at fixed intervals], emanating from the southeast toward the northwest… [continues on the next page]
