The tachi in form has a slightly low shinogi (ridge line) and is crafted with a somewhat narrow habaki (blade collar area). It resembles the work of Sadatoshi, and the kitae (forging) is masame (straight wood-grain pattern). The mine (back ridge) is of the iori-mine (peaked, tent-shaped) style, and the ji (surface) color is darkish with a whitish tone, while the metal color (kana-iro) is pale. Generally, suguha (straight hamon) is tempered, but ko-midareba (small irregular hamon) is also tempered. There are also traces of a midareba (irregular hamon) character. Regarding tachi and katana with suguha, they resemble inferior works of Kunimitsu. There is much mura (unevenness) in the ji, the hamon color is dark, and the works have a namazuke (raw, unrefined quality) appearance above the hamon. These are inferior works. Further details are conveyed through oral transmission.
One entry: Mitsukane [with interlinear note indicating alternate classifications] was a swordsmith active during the reign of Emperor Go-Daigo, around the Gentoku era (1329–1331), and is said to have been a disciple of Kunitoshi. He is identified as Totsurai.
The sashi (manner of wearing/curvature) of the katana is made with an inward curvature (uchizori), and is generally of the iori-mine style, with some swords also having a mitsu-mine (triple-ridged back), which is an old-fashioned form. The kitae is masame and remarkably fine. The ji color is darkish at the base, with a slightly bluish and somewhat reddish hue on the outer surface. Suguha is tempered, with some swords showing slight irregularity. The bōshi (temper pattern at the tip) resembles that of Kunitoshi. However, there are several chips (kake) in the kaeri (turnback of the bōshi), and the overall wide kaeri termination resembles the appearance of a wooden branch split at its tip.
