○大黒天（だいこくでん）。あきれながら。心得（こゝろへ）たりとて。打出（うちで）の
小槌（こづち）をふりあげ給へば
○娘（むすめ）。鼻（はな）をおさへ驚（おどろ）きていわく。式銀（しきがね）を打出（うちいだ）し
給へとこそ頼（たの）みしに。式銀所（しきがねどころ）か。我（わが）たゞさへ
凹（ひく）き。此（この）鼻（はな）を。今（いま）また。生（うま）れつきしよりも。
五割（ごわり）がたも凹（ひく）めたまひしは。いかなる事（こと）ぞと

汝（なんぢ）が。一生（いつしやう）の身（み）の治（おさま）り。夥敷（おびたゝしき）福分（ふくぶん）をあたへし
なり。汝（なんぢ）にかぎらず。世（よ）の中（なか）の人（ひと）。金銀（きんぎん）さへあ
れば。凹（ひくひ）鼻（はな）も高（たか）ふなり。不実（ふじつ）。気侭（きまま）も金銀（きんぎん）
にてすみ。只（たゞ）何事（なにごと）も。金銀（きんぎん）さへあれば。一生（いつしやう）の
身（み）の治（おさま）りは。なるやうにおもふ。おろかさに。終（つゐ）に
我身（わがみ）を亡（ほろぼ）すなり。金銀（きんぎん）を山（やま）のごとくに持（もつ）
現代語訳
○大黒天は呆れながらも、心得たと言って、打ち出の小槌を振り上げなさった。
○娘は鼻を押さえて驚き、「式（結婚）の費用を出してくださいとお頼みしたのに、式の費用どころか、私のただでさえ低い、この鼻を、今また、生まれつきよりも五割ほども低くなさったのは、いったいどういうことでしょうか」と膝を立て直して言った。
○大黒天は目を怒らせて言った。「顔も心も歪んだお娘よ、私の言うことをよく聞け。私が今、お前の鼻を生まれつきよりも五割ほど低くしたのは、お前の一生の身の振り方、すばらしい福分を与えたのである。お前に限らず、世の中の人は、金銀さえあれば、低い鼻も高くなり、不実や我儘も金銀で済み、ただ何事も、金銀さえあれば、一生の身の振り方はなんとかなると思う愚かさで、ついに我が身を滅ぼすのである。金銀を山のように持っても」

○The daughter pressed her nose in shock and said, "I asked you to produce money for my wedding expenses, but instead of wedding money, you have made my already low nose even lower—about fifty percent lower than it was at birth! What is the meaning of this?" She straightened herself on her knees.
○Daikokuten glared angrily and said, "O daughter with both face and heart distorted, listen well to what I say. I have just made your nose fifty percent lower than it was at birth to give you proper direction for your life and tremendous good fortune. Not only you, but all people in this world think that with gold and silver, even a low nose becomes high, that dishonesty and selfishness can be resolved with money, and that everything in life can be managed if only one has gold and silver. In this foolishness, they ultimately destroy themselves. Even if one possesses gold and silver like mountains..."
