一種 青（あを）みつぶふとりたるを見合（みあはせ）紙に包（つゝ）み
炉（ろ）より三四尺へたてゝかけ置へし

【右丁】
一 蚕種が青みを帯びて膨らんだものを見計らって紙に包み、
囲炉裏から三、四尺離してかけ置くべきである。
ただし暖かい年であれば包む必要はない。
一 六、七分程度孵化すると見える時、湿気のない精白した
米糠をふるいにかけて埃を取り除き、わら筵に五分程度敷き、
包み紙を開いてその上に種紙を置く。桑の葉を
非常に細かく刻んで種紙の上に振りかけ置き、半日

程度過ぎてよく孵化した時、烏の羽根でそっと
蚕の脚を傷めないように糠の上へ直接掃き落とすべきである。
二番掃きも同様にして別のわら筵に掃くべきである。
または種紙の四隅に糸をつけ、二人でこれを
持ち、裏から篠竹のような物で叩き落とせば
蚕の脚を傷めることなく良いという。
ただし、わら筵は最初から最後まで蓬で拭く。

1. When silkworm eggs appear bluish and swollen, wrap them in paper at the appropriate time and hang them three to four shaku away from the hearth.
However, in warm years, wrapping is not necessary.
1. When about sixty to seventy percent appear to be hatching, sift refined rice bran that is free from moisture to remove dust, spread it about five bu thick on a straw mat, open the wrapping paper and place the egg paper on top. Chop mulberry leaves very finely and sprinkle them on the egg paper, leave for half a day.

After about this time has passed and they have hatched well, use crow feathers to gently sweep them directly onto the bran, being careful not to damage the silkworms' legs. The second sweeping should be done in the same manner onto a separate straw mat.
Alternatively, attach strings to the four corners of the egg paper, have two people hold it, and tap from behind with something like bamboo grass to knock them off without harming the silkworms' legs, which is said to be good.
Note that the straw mat should be wiped with mugwort from beginning to end.
