を説いたことは見えるけれども、実際にその理論を知り、詳しくその効能を論じた文献は、儒学書にも医学書にも全く見当たらない。多くは硫黄で温泉が湧くと言い、あるいは雄黄・礬石・砒石などで湧くとも言う。愚か者の夢を説き、見識の狭い人の芝居を観るような有様で、温泉の根本的な真理を理解していないために、その効用を論じる者も粗略になるのは当然のことである。

Although there are records of such discussions, there are absolutely no texts in either Confucian or medical literature that truly understand these principles and thoroughly discuss their efficacy. Most say that hot springs are heated by sulfur, or alternatively that they are heated by realgar, alum, arsenic, and such substances. Like fools explaining dreams or narrow-minded people watching plays, because they do not comprehend the fundamental truth of hot springs, it is natural that those who discuss their therapeutic effects do so in a superficial manner.
Therefore, contemporary medical practitioners already lack sufficient textual evidence to rely upon, and moreover, since few apply their minds to this field of study, many do not understand the true principles of hot springs and thus mislead both themselves and others. Such cases are not uncommon.
